It's pretty naff to be honest, they look like frankfurters or savaloy so they're already cooked and only need warming up, now they're just burnt on one side. Bacon cooks better as it's flat and it can survive cooking on one side better than a sausage, it might be a good idea on a day trip where you don't carry any kit but otherwise i'll stick to a stove or a barbeque.

Still, given the question you pose in this thread and your 'dinner' using the disposable barbeque recently then i'm not surprised you didn't think of it

I'm very tempted to try this, but I would want a bit more a permanent solution... like a small metal case with a lid welded on to the top of the exhaust with a plastic fairing so that it didn't cool down at speed.

Maybe the next time I'll go camping I'll just grab the tin foil and see what happens

Having a bit of a think on this theme, I'm wondering how easy it would be to set up some kind of Kelly Kettle affair to boil water on the exhaust, even if it's as simple as strapping a tin can to the headers. After a run, there might be enough latent heat in the pipes for a brew so you could pull up, fill the can and have a cuppa with your second fag.

Might have to experiment with this one

Awesome idea. Would've thought it would be easier to do it on top of the engine, especially on an IL4 - lots of space, stop half way to turn them over...

Shows just how efficient engines really are doesn't it. They can cook food faster than a cooker drawing the maximum amount of current possible to get out of a domestic electric system. Maybe we should be looking for some way to store up the heat and covert it to energy using thermo couples? Hmm, might have found myself a project
