Can I ride with a missing rear sprocket nut?

Hi, I broke a rear sprocket nut last weekend during a C+S change and had to order a new one on the net as it had an unusual thread pitch.


I have 5 out of the 6 correctly torqued down, can I ride it??


Also, am I right in assuming it would fail an MOT like this?

I can't give you proper advice on this however its happened to my bike aswell about a month ago and the sprocket/chain issue has been fine since.
It's best you try and sort it out though if possible maybe even take it to a garage if you don't have a tap and dye thing to sort it, shouldn't charge you much more than a 5/10 if that I should think.

no, it wouldnt fail an MOT unless it is hanging off the bike.

I would think it would fail the MOT.

As far as riding it - if it was mine I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Yeh I'm getting it sorted just have to wait on the nuts to be delivered, it's an M10 with a 1.25mm pitch (typical M10 = 1.5mm), common on vehicles but for some reason impossible to find in shops.


Cheers, I'll just ride it anyway but take it easy until the nuts come in .

I would ride it but keep an eye on the others for signs of stress. I can't see the one nut making that much difference. Just don't thrash it.

I always keep spare nuts and bolts in a box. You never know when you might need one. I could have sent you one if you asked.
