Hi,

Having a lil trouble with my Ninja, I bought a new chain and sprocket kit, everything ok apart from the front sprocket nut. I think it's still the original front sprocket from new as the bike has just hit 5000 miles. I tried using a breaker bar on the huge nut and failed, then moved on to a air rachet gun, still failed.i'm starting to run out of ideas. The sprocket nut has got locktight on it looking from the inside of the nut. The nut is quite weird 32mm socket closest to the sprocket and a square bit on the end which is 25mm socket.

Any ideas on how to get it off?

Regards

Rich

Don't give it too much heat or you may ruin your output shaft seals.

Hi,

Tried heating the nut gently today and still no joy, my mate came round to give it a shot and the 25mm spanner just kept slipping. My dad tried 1 of his sockets on it and just snapped it into 3 pieces Sad

I have no idea how to win this battle Sad

Have you tried a really long breaker bar and a 6 point/surface drive socket?

Hi,

Yup, that's what broke my old mans socket lol, I thought he snapped his breaker bar in half the bang was that loud when the socket exploded.

I found a picture of the exact nut on Google.

How hot did you get the nut?

I had exactly the same struggles as you with a front sprocket on a ZZR.

Took it round the corner to the local garage. The boss rapidly heated
the nut to cherry red with the acetylene torch, then his lad whacked
the air wrench on it. The nut flew off.

Be brave, get the nut red hot. Thumbs Up

You can replace an output shaft seal fairly cheaply so it's not a great loss, if heat is the only way to break the nut off then there is no other choice really.
