Bike dumping its coolant after ride...

I Parked up the bike today after a 20 minute ride and as I switched it off it decided to dump its coolant all over the floor

The temp was only in the 90's on the dash so I am a bit confused. Is it something to worry about or is it just one of those magical things that bikes do?

Depends how much, if it was overfilled it might reasonably have needed to puke some out.

Air bubble in the system?

Follow the proceedure to bleed/burp the system. It usually involves just squeezing or hammering the pipes with the rad cap off.

I had this too a while back, it was an airlock.

I just completely drained and re-filled the system, then bled. Good excuse for some fresh coolant.

ive just had the same problem on the r1.

Each time it got around the 90C mark it dumped the coolant out the overflow pipe.

Turned out to be a dodgy radiator cap valve opening to soon allowing the pressurised coolant in the radiator to fill the expansion tank and overflow it.

replaced the cap and it was fine again.

Thanks for the replies. I'll have a quick bleed of the system. The coolant is the best part of 4 months old so shouldnt really need replacing as of yet.

The bike was "under load" so to speak just before I parked it up. Could this make it overheat without showing on the dial and dump its coolant?

I'm not sure you understand about bleeding the system. If you do, forgive me, but I'll spell it out just in case.

Its nothing to do with the age of the coolant.

There are bits in the coolant pipework, where a pocket of air can stop coolant getting round.

There will be screws or bolts at these point that you undo (not take out) until liquid comes out of them. You tighten them up after, as there is now liquid where there was once air.

It could simply be that if you recently put in coolant, you slightly overfilled, and this is the only time you have got it hot enough for it to come out due to heat and over filling.

Either way, check you know where all the bleed points are on the cooling piping, and bleed until lquid comes out.
