Looking for cheapish luggage

OK, I had this fantastic 80 litre backpack that I have cycled with for years. Mega comfy, could fit a set of work clothes, shoes, rain suit, packed lunch, and open university books in for my trip to work Monday morning, and trip home Friday night. Could also fit most purchases from a Saturday shop in there. I has however just snuffed it, due in part to a ferret digging a hole in the bottom.

Randomly looking for new bags I found this, £20 for an 80 litre bag :

Pretty cheap. I then had a look for motorbike luggage options and seemed to find, there's no cheap motorbike luggage. Prices for soft panniers seem to start at £40 for 40 litres? That is less than the backpack for double the price. Tail pack's and tank bags seem just as bad for the litres to price ratio.

So the question I guess is, does anywhere sell motorbike luggage cheaper than that, that makes it worth buying luggage over a new backpack?

Also, if there is a yes, is there any recommendations for what to buy for a Rieju RS2?

Ooo and another thing! Is it worth buying one of these if I did go for panniers?

At the end of the day you get what you pay for most of the time.

The more you are able to spend, the more it will be;

a) waterproof
b) easy to load
c) easy to strap to bike
d) stable at high speed
e) additional pockets for the "need to easily reach" items
f) comfortable to ride with

I personally wouldn't like to fall off with 80litres of stuff strapped to my back, so if you can attach it to the bike instead even better.

It's all a compromise at the end of the day. For 90% of my travelling in the past year I have strapped a 20litre backback to my seat and cargo netted it down. Total cost; £15.

However for longer journeys I've invested in a Kriega US-40 for all of the above reasons. Not cheap, but well built.

Feels well made, has waterproof liners in, lostsa straps and useful stuff included with them.

The backpack in my first post... Its OK... In hindsight I kinda wish I had gotten an ex army one again. They ain't pretty but they are bomb proof compared to any other backpack you buy of course. Oh well, Tail pack or dry bag next Smile
