You sure it needs the whole power pack, imho it's nearly always the capacitors that have broken down or leaked etc....

see i dont know anything about them, all i know is that a repair company quoted for a new power pack but we settled on a warranty payout to buy a new telly, so if we can diy repair it or cheaper elsewhere then we can sell that one

Well, I suppose technically, the warranty company would own the broke telly now, but if they've left it for you to dispose of, so be it.

If it were me, I'd have it switched off and unplugged for a couple weeks (may have done so already if it has been replaced?), then I'd get the screwdriver out. I'd look for where the mains plug is inside, and would most likely find a small separate board that can be removed - I'd remove it. I'd then look at all the capacitors to see if any of them are leaking or have swelled, I'd most likely replace any with the + pattern on the top of the casing because they seem to be the ones that fail...

If I was looking up the information about bad capacitors, I'd look on badcaps.net or the wiki article on capacitor plague...

Of course, that's just me - your own mileage may vary Wink
