He had an off in free practice 2 and was holding his shin. He's having a medical check to see if he can race this weekend. He's been fastest all weekend too Rolling Eyes .

Confirmed, he's fractured his shinbone and won't be racing this weekend.

Quote:
Reigning seven time MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi has been ruled out of the remainder of his home Italian MotoGP after being diagnosed with a fractured right shinbone.

"Valentino Rossi has suffered a displaced and exposed fracture of his right tibia after crashing in practice for the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello this morning," said a Fiat Yamaha statement.

"The reigning World Champion crashed his Fiat Yamaha M1 at turn thirteen, the fast chicane at the top of the hill, and was taken immediately to the circuit Medical Centre for x-rays.

"Further information will be made public as soon as a more detailed examination has been completed."

With three races this month - and six races between now and July 25, when the summer break begins - the injury is a monumental blow to Rossi's hopes of winning a tenth world title in 2010.

The #46, who immediately grabbed his lower right leg after the incident, has never previously missed a race, since his 1996 grand prix debut in the 125cc class.

Ah well, at least it gives someone else a turn....

It'll be fuck all without him though, he's all the GP series has.

Stoner only has a chance if they manage to make his bike twice as fast as everyone elses again (and if he stops being a guuurl).

It's gonna be a few really dull races. People only watch MotoGP for one of two reasons - to watch Rossi win, or to watch someone beating Rossi, without him they may as well save the petrol.

^^^Weird way to look at racing.

Some might say they're bored of Rossi and Stoner winning everything.

Edwards,Hayden and du Puniet are doing well at Mugello. Ben Spies who's never raced there is in the top 10.

Lorenzo will hunt Pedrosa like a Dog.

It is and it isn't.

Not so much of a way of looking at racing, more of an indictment of how run down that particular series is. Sure people are bored with the same few winning, as am I, but you want that to change by people coming in and upping the game, not by removing those at the top.... that's just rubbish.

With the exception of interest forced by the (pretend) financial constraints of Fantasy Road Race no one really gives a flying cock if Kallio beats Dovi for example, they want to see Rossi or Stoner deposed (on the track, not because of injury or completely made up lactose intolerance based illness), by someone performing really well.

It's very early in the series, and we're already looking at a Runaway victory.... I think I'll watch Moto2 and head out for a ride (provided I get these bloody downpipes done this afternoon).

Just damm expensive to run a good team.

[ballpark figures from Eurosport]

£1million will get you a good ride in 125
£100,000 for moto2 Laughing
Who knows how much motoGP costs.

Runaway victories...not always a cert when racing on 2 wheels.

230 GP's in a row, amazing.

I guess after racing that long somethings bound to happen eventually, I guess he got off lightly with a busted leg, look like one hell of a fast highside, they reckon 110 MPH on eurosport Shocked

Bit of a shame, I'm sure it won't be the way Lorenzo would have wanted to win the title though, to be a true GP great he really needs to beat Rossi.
I hope Pedrosa can raise his game a bit as Lorenzo is only just over a race win ahead and prone to making mistakes.
Could be Rossi's last ride for Yamaha as well if the season is a write off.

I haven't seen the crash properly as all the youtube vids of it have been removed, can't be much worse then Alex De Angelis crash the other week and he wanted to race the same day. Probably more a case of bad luck for Rossi, I guess he's got to be due some.

Just seen this too, he was expressing an interest in driving for Ferrari again yesterday:

Other than the fact de Angelis walked away and Rossi snapped his leg in half.

He has an exposed fracture, which means it's an impact fracture bad enough to stick through the skin. So i expect him to be out for about 6 weeks, maybe more, maybe less.

Odds:

Lorenzo, 1.3 : 1
Stoner, 6.2 : 1

This is going to be one fucking boring season. Thank god we have moto2 to watch!

Yeah, especially having endured Rossi doing it for the last 10 years...

Anyway, updates via BBC - Sport

I think Lorenzo was in with a very good chance this year, but that was probably down to Rossi's shoulder injury causing him to ease off around 3/4 of the way through each race.

Stoner has just been pushing waay too hard, and hopefully Pedrosa will have something to smile about this season... on second thoughts perhaps not. Smile

I usually record the racing anyway, so if it is dull...I fast forward to the last 8 laps...which is handy...I rarely ever watch a race live, unless I'm trackside. And then I prefer all the background stuff anyway... Cool

When is the transfer window open again?
