Hullo!

Been browsing this forum for the last few days and thought I'd introduce myself!

I'm Craig from Southampton - I'm 17, been riding a GN 125 for about two months, and have only just realised it had no air filter when I bought it Embarassed Guess it all comes down to experience. Looking to do a couple of days training and test later this year.

So um... hi!

Craig

Hi & welcome.

I am currently working in Hamble and the other evening I saw an R6 parked outside a parade of shops and briefly wondered if it belonged to YamsR6

Air filters have real benefits and are probably relatively cheap. They do what they say but they may restrict your airflow slightly.

If your bike has previsions for a filter, get one. A few quid could cost you an engine. The air filter is vital for filtering any bits of crap out, before they get into your engine and cause problems... Crap could include, little stones dirt, dust, insects, etc. Engines do not like this, they like nice clean cold air.

It can be a nightmare learning the basics when you're starting. I'd say an air filter is pretty much a necessity though.
I remember my 1st bike after my test - a shaft driven 750. I didn't know you need to check the shaft oil. Nor did the previous 3 owners. So it snapped in the overtaking lane of the M5. Oops.
Borrow a basic mechanics book from the library to save yourself from undue costs arising from lack of knowledge.
