All was well with the bike yesterday, nothing wrong at all, I cleaned and polished it all up today and then everything seemed to go wrong Mad

Basically none of the lights apart from the headlight work, but even then it's no where near as bright as it was, changed the fuse, not that, looked at all the connections and there was nothing wrong with that.

I didn't soak the bike when I cleaned it so water couldn't get in any where.

Could the battery just suddenly die?
Or could there be a short circuit?
The horn doesn't work any more either and the wiring loom has only been recently done....any suggestions as I don't wanna fork out for the garage if I can do it myself.

Karma for all decent suggestions

Look under and inside the headlight and there will be loads of connector blocks. Make sure all these are water free and not corroded.

On my GS125, if you unplug one, weird things happen, it will run with no lights, or just some of the things will work.

Epic, I'll give that a go tomorrow Thumbs Up
Thanks! Very Happy

As I say it was working fine yesterday so it can't be much can it?

probably rider error Laughing Laughing Laughing

lol, definitely check connector blocks.. forgot those.

Also might like to add the bike is 6v, but has a 12v tail light bulb?

If all the connector blocks are fine, there are various earths but there is a main one under the tank which might have corroded.

Okay, so I replaced the battery because that was screwed, and I have now got a rear parking light!! But there is still not a back main light and no brake light, and no indicators, but main light seems fine.

I'm going to buy a new rectifier for it because that may have blown, going to check the earth wire under the tank tomorrow, also the bulb is wrong so I have to try find the right one.

I checked all the wires behind the front light and that all seems to be fine, I just can't work out how some lights work and some don't Confused

What lights specifically don't work?

Don't waste money on a rectifier without checking it, get a multimeter, and check the voltage at the battery terminals when the engines at about 5k rpm. If it's under 15V ish, it should be ok.

Using your multimeter as a jumper lead (in current mode) you can also check all the bulbs in situ to see if it's the housing or the connectors. Try chasing all the wires back to their connections (they'll be wiring for the rear lights under the seat as well.)

Bike has 6v direct lighting circuit.

The indicators, brake light and horn are the only thing powered by the battery.

Everything else is off the genny.

Furry Muff, point still stands though, check the voltage properly before ops shells out to replace it.

Sounds like the lights that run off the battery are the ones that are screwed, checking things back and isolating the switches still sounds like a plan to me.

Okay, so it's not the battery and it's not the rectifier, there aren't any loose connections and from what I can see there's no damaged wires, everything inside the headlight is fine, I'm really confused now.

Anyone think it could be anything in the generator?

This might be a little patronising, but you've checked the bulbs right? Whats the output from the alternator like voltage wise?

Bulbs are fine, the parking light works at the back, and it uses the same bulb as the break and main light

i'm confused, the rear tail light works?

Does the horn, indicators and rear brake light work?

What might be worth checking is the wire harness from the generator and check the connection to the main wiring loom.

I had my old H100 do this. I knocked off out (or pulled you could say) when I was fiddling with the carb on old bike that I had. Actually found that the connection was really poor even after fitting.

So cleaned it up and I had my front light working again.

This might be what has happen to you? The wiring may has come adrift when you were cleaning? Trace the wires from the generator to the connection block and check them.

Note that this is not in the headlight shell

I shall give that a go, when the parking lights are on the back lights up, but turn the bike on and there's no rear light, break lights, or indicators, but the headlight works fine

by pass your ignition wires, i think the fault now lie there.

are you saying just so i'm not confused.

ignition switch to parked mode: parking/side lights are on?

Ignition to run: No lights? But engine runs?

is that what your saying?

you might have some water that has ingress into the light switch on the handlebar and giving a poor contact?

The best way to go about it, is to eliminate all the switches and by pass everything then one by one you should be able to trace what isn't working
