New rider, 50cc help/Chat/modifying

So i could use some tips really i have a yamaha neos 50 (yn50) 2001 its done about 4500miles and runs perfect,

Im taking my cbt this Saturday im nervous but excited to be on the road for the first time.

I dont know what you guys are like on this forum with Modding and stuff yes my bike is de-restricted but most people do it i need it for commuting to Preston college every day and i live in chorley.

It Grabs 45mph no problem (tested offroad) and is a really nippy 50cc but what are some mods i could do to squeeze a few mph, i meen im aware of 70cc Piston/head sets but would i need a uprated carb, they say on the site just turn up the carb and get a bigger injector.

Truth is that 45-50mph is all it will really do. Yeah you can try and mod it, but its expensive and may well result in a fucked bike. At very least it is likely to be a bit temperamental as your tweeking it. Then when it comes to selling it, people won't want a modded bike.

Other factors to consider is that your only legally allowed a 50 restricted to 30mph. Get caught on a 70cc, or going over 30 and expect to lose your licence. Thats car AND bike licence. Technically you also won't have insurance so if you crash, or it gets stolen and recovered your stuffed.

Truth is the sensible thing to do is to stick with it as it is, keep it clean and tidy and locked up well and think of it as your deposit towards the car or a bigger bike.

16 year olds are restricted for a reason, and that is in the hope of giving them a period of experience on the roads before they move on to faster things. Granted 30mph with a stream of twats overtaking you constantly is probably more dangerous than 45mph. I can understand the itch to start tweeking and seeing how things work, but you can satisfy that with thorough maintenance.

My vote is for pactising for your bike / car test from the highway code, and putting up with a slightly slow bike for a bit. Of course you can completely ignore all the above, in which case you will find people here are good at general tweeking advice and problem solving, but you may want a more specialist supply of into. This might help

i can tell you now, its not worth spending alot of money on a 50cc. you could hapily make it go 60mph i agree, but you will have spend £500+ in the process. if it does 45, your already pretty much there.

if you wanted a fast 50cc, you should have bought a gpr 50, or a new rs 50. (ie a geared 50). they do 60mph + when derestricted (and completly standard) with the correct gearing. great for the back roads and they look the nuts too.

in my opionion dont waste your time and money on it, which is probally going to be the response from most people on here.

if you insist though, buy a sports exhaust and jet accordingly. if you really want to go fast, buy a 70 kit, new carb and new exhaust, but aslo say goodbye to £500.

your choice., but with that extra £500 quid you could probllay sell yours and buy a gpr or something. mines going to be for sale soon. (begining of september)

I wouldn't watse your money on it. If your bothered about speed get yourself a geared bike. If i was 16 again and looking at which to get i would get an aprilla rsx, i had a derbi senda (absolute heapa shite) but used to do an indicated 60 just derestricted, nothing else was done to the bike. But a mate that had an aprilla rsx used to leave me for dead. But if you don't like crosser style bikes then it's between the derbi GPR or an aprilla RS. Both of these will do 60 easily. And as had been said you could spend a fortune making your ped go faster but inb the long run people wouldn't want to buy it, a 50 that has been "modded" is hard to sell because people know they've been thrashed half to death.
