Digital Economy Act - Will it stop you?

Couldn't find another thread on this, and given it's coming into effect soon I'd be interested to see whether it's going to have any effect on anyone here!

So basically as I understand it, you get caught downloading things you shouldn't be, your ISP sends you a letter saying 'Stop it you naughty boy!' you get another of these letters the next time, and on the third strike, you get your internet cut off. As far as I can see it comes into effect on the 12th of June.

Have I got that right? Has anyone heard about it, and will it stop you downloading music/films/programs or not?

Not quite answering your question, Limewire have a court case against them where it looks like they may have to pay a fine for *every* file downloaded via their service. Will post a link when / if I find it, unless someone else finds it first

I can get a decent download rate on my local McDonalds WiFi. I'll just make a list and find the stuff I want at home, then go leech whilst I have some breakfast there.

I quite regularly download a film or an album, I don't go out and buy them because although I know it's 'wrong', I'm quite stingy, and so I won't pay for something if I can get it free, I was quite interested to see how people were going to get around it, as I'm sure they will. It said on the article I read that they know they'll never catch the hardcore downloaders with it, they were just aiming to stop the 'soft underbelly' of illegal downloaders, i.e. the thousands of teenagers who do it because it's easy, and they can, when they have no idea how it works and haven't heard of the law. Quite sneaky in my opinion to catch people they know won't have heard about the law, I guess that's why you get the warning letters.
