Wear a yellow vest and practice screaming the tits off the bike in 2nd, you want to be doing 20mph on the apex of the bend and hitting 32mph or more through the speed trap. 30mph isn't fast enough and will fail you. loosen your back brake off a tad so you dont skid on your emergency stop. Also practice your slalom and figures of eight and your U turns. other than that make sure you do the life savers over both shoulders before and after each manoeuver. The test doesn't finish till you have left the compound.

Good luck

Tried emergency stop but it was raining, and i slipped the bike into the edge !!!! never mind! it didn't skid or lock just sidled to the side, do some more letter.

Don't forget your shoulder checks before starting any manouevre, drill it into your head by doing them when you practice. It'll be second nature then.

Emergency stops in the wet are good practice. If you can do them well at 30mph without locking up or falling on your arse, then you're sweet. Practice at slower speeds first, then build up. You probably wont be going at 30mph when you try and stop, since you should have wound the throttle back after going through the gates, and if you're in second that'll bleed off a decent amount of speed.

[additional edit]The emergency stop is really a misnomer. It's just a controlled stop in a safe manner. It doesn't mean stop on a sixpence by yanking on the anchors for all they're worth. Use your engine braking and don't sweat it if you leave the clutch out and stall.

After the stop, just change down the gears to first (restart if stalled engine), shoulder checks and away to the next manouevre.[/additional edit]

It's 50kmh which is about 32mph, if your speedo under reads by a couple of mph then 35mph indicated is easily fast enough for the gates. Like the man said above, nail it in second and it shouldn't be a problem.

A quiet industrial estate or empty car park is best to practice. I found late at nights were best. 10.30-ish was the start of the quiet time around here during the week.

Have fun

The distance your given for the emergence stop is massive. It's barely an emergency stop as you just have to stop in the huge gap that your given. If I were you I'd practise all the menouvers as slow as you can to get your clutch control perfect.

On the U-Turn make sure you use the whole of the area to turn to make it easier on yourself, my first one I turned to sharp and lost my balance.

Good luck mate, it's pretty straight forward if you can just relax and take your time.

A good one I did for practising the slalom and figure of 8 was to go to a closed or quiet carpark and slalom around the ends of the lines on each space and doing the figure of 8 around 2 parking spaces worth of lines. It wasn't until I got to the test that I realised the cone distance that is given we're massivly bigger compared to what I'd practiced with and I nailed it easily with confidence.

The speed trap is a good one to practise aswell just go along at 20ish in 2nd and pin the throttle back until you get a feel for what's needed. I'm not sure if your CG does this but mine does, since there is no rev counter on there it sets the horn off on my CG when it's redlining so its worth remembering to keep that throttle pinned until you can hear it as that helps.

Might want to try taking Kalms for a few weeks leading up to your test. They certainly help a lot of people, but whether that's due to placebo effect or not I don't know. A little nervousness is a good thing, but striking the balance is what you're after. It's all worth it when you get to take those L's off. Thumbs Up

Edit: Don't forget to bring the photocard part of your license as well as the paper part.

Like some of the others have said, dont sweat on the emergency stop.

You have shedloads of room to stop, and you shouldn't need to even do more than touch the back brake really. I think people lock up because the anticipation of the guy putting his hand up heightens their reactions, causing them to yank everything on like they would on the road and panic braking for a car or something. I managed to stop a 500 before halfway on my test without doing more than steady firm braking, just force yourself not to snatch at anything.

Just remember, 100s of people pass the test each week and they're no better riders than you.... Good luck Thumbs Up

Maybe get some practice in tomorrow if you're not doing anything else?
I spent some time down an industrial estate before my test and did all the 'manouvers' fine.

Best tip I can offer for riding to the test standard would be to literally talk yourself through everything as you go along, shoulder checks, mirror checks, manoeuvres, the whole lot, just say what you need to be doing out loud in your lid. It sounds barmy but it's a great way to get you riding in a smooth and consistent manner. Plus it goes a long way towards helping avoid missing a lifesaver or mirror check Thumbs Up

Good luck with it

Don't worry, it rained for half of mine but it didn't make it any more difficult. If anything, it gives you a good excuse to take your time.

Anyway, you'll be fine.

Good luck... and don't forget the most important thing... have fun! Thumbs Up Wink
