Hi All

This morning i noticed that the clutch on my RS125 felt a bit different. I checked the nipple in the clutch lever and it is down to 2 strands, the rest have snapped. Sad Obviously i need a new cable but i think you have to take the gear box side panel off to fit it.
How much will a shop charge to do this and how much is the new cable? Is it a big job to do this or just a quickie?
I've only just had new gearbox oil and i suppose all this will get wasted?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

i changed the clutch on my NSR, only took 10 mins to get the fairing off and 5 mins to change the cable.

not exactly rocket science.

I have taken the fairing off and it looks like the cable goes inside the gearbox. To take this part off, it looks like the oil needs draining first. I really havent a clue. Very Happy

Hi

I know that feeling. Happened to me coming out of work, and was followed by a gentle ride to the bike shop and then home up the M6 (less need to change gear or use clutch!).

Anyway, I bought a replacement inner cable for a nominal amount of money plus a solderless nipple for the end (try the cheap back street bike shops for stuff like this). The end that goes into the engine is a pain, but can be fitted without removing the case. If you undo the 2 plugs (that look like they undo with a small coin, and do if you are lucky) you can see the mechanism. Undo the cable at the clutch lever which gives you some free length to play with. Pull the outer cable out of the engine case (it is a push fit, but sealed with a pair of O rings and so quite tight). You can then push / pull / twist the inner cable to unhook it from the arm inside the case (you can see it clearly through the hole).

Putting the new cable in is much the same, but takes a fair bit longer. It is easier if the inner cable is slightly curved (not much). Hook it over the arm, push the outer into place (keeping the inner under a bit of tension), thread it through the correct path up to the handlebar and connect it to the clutch lever.

Adjust to taste

All the best

Keith
