m.o.t fail?

as some may know i crashed my little super four last week and have sorted most of the damage now.

There is just one thing left that got me thinking.

one of the little tabs on the headstock that stops the bars going too far has come off, so the handlebars turn till they hit the tank when on full right lock. Now to me this causes no issue as but will it pass an m.o.t like this? and if not is there any known ways to temporarily fix it so the examiner wont notice?

You'll fail on this part:

With the front wheel raised off the ground the handlebar must not hit or foul the tank when the steering is fully turned lock to lock, the steering must move freely and without drag or notchiness.

You can:

Drill a hole where the lock stop was and put a nut and bolt through so the bars hit that instead of the lock stop.

Weld a bit back on where the lock stop was.

Fit Race lockstops can really limit your steering lock so not too practical.

It will fail without the lockstop, the handles bars must not touch the tank.

Lucky it wasn't the tab on the frame or you'd of written the thing off! You could get another bottom yoke or effect a bodge by the nut and bolt trick mentioned by Ham below.

Just get a new one welded on. Won't cost much.

It's worth trying for the MOT anyway, I've had a few bikes pass with knackered lockstops.

got pic, yeah thats what i thought gaz, i wrecken if i just paint it black to match and rub some mud on it, no one will ever know. The guy i use for m.o.t's is pretty lax anyway so im pretty sure he wont notice .

Is the tank dented? Cuz that's a giveaway. I've MOT'd loads of bikes where you can catch your fingers between the bars and the tank too, and I think that's supposed to be a fail.

I always used to be afraid of 'getting stuff welded' because I always thought it'd be really expensive.

But then I found a cracking mobile welder, he comes out, does the job in about 10 minutes and charges very little.

So have a quick google, that place looks very accessible. Wouldn't take someone two minutes. Be good as new. Could even just weld a nut on there or something, it'll look the same once it's painted black.

You could always try adding more stuff or a bolt to the tab on the bottom yoke.
