Seeing as the police often get a bad press on here, it's only fair to address the balance when a nice event happens.

So anyway, lets say 'my friend' was coming home later than normal from work. As the roads were emptier than normal 'my friend' decided he wanted to hear his Italian exhausts.

'My friend' went over a flyover and last seen 85 mph on his speedo. A few hundred meters later, 'my friend' began to slow for the traffic lights. Next thing an unmarked police car pulls up next to 'my friend' with lights on. 'My friend's' heart sinks. Police driver winds down the window "Nice bike mate, just slow it down for us ay?" and drives off.

Anyway forgetting the kittens that could have been killed, as it's a dual carriageway with no residential area but yet is still a 30 mph zone, 'my friend' felt extremely lucky to have encountered such a nice officer.

But it's nice to see a bit of common sense applied... Cool

Perhaps he couldn't get a speed reading on you and his only option was to have a "friendly" chat.

Glad to hear that "your friend" had an encounter that was positive?.
But sadly i am inclined to think that maybe Flatspot is more along the right lines.

one good deed, a saint does not make.!

Flat spot is most probably right. No point even trying to make you admit you were speeding because most people these days know without proof, it won't hold up in court.

At least not in the UK.

They could have done but I am sure if you really wanted to you could fight that if they had no video or proof.

if the cop was on his own you have no chance unless they have started working on a guilty until proved innocent thing.

They can pull out the old 59 for a number of reasons though he could have gone with excessive noise and revving the engine too high without cause Evil or Very Mad

Not having a go or anything, but why refer to yourself as 'my friend'? It isn't as if the fuzzy muff are sprawling over forums is it.

Because it's an ongoing joke on here and elsewhere; namely that you don't self-incriminate even though everyone (including the po po) know it's actually you?

I've had about 6 encounters with police whilst riding in a spirited way.

Each time common sense and descretion has been applied Thumbs Up

If a copper is being a cunt to you, its probably becuase you are a cunt!

That is probably the most accurate answer, been pulled twice so far by the police, once after doing a 40 in a 30mph zone and once for MOT running out (it had only been a day or so) and both times I was polite and so was the officer. It just ended up being a nice chat and at the end of which the officer told me to get it MOT/keep the speed down.

A retired copper i work with told me there is a lot of discretion used with speeding. He said as long as they aren't riding/driving without insurance his colleagues tended to be quite lenient with mild offenders as long as they were respectful. He said people who say "why don't you go catch a real criminal" got it worst Wink

Now if you we're speeding on a older more clapped out bike.

Would you now have points on your license?

Thumbs Up
