Isn't one flag meant to show you have a d1ck of less than 3" and 2 flags mean you suffer from erectile disfunction?

Poor bike Rolling Eyes

We are allowed to wear an England football shirt for work instead of the usual uniform during the World cup ...... think I will just continue to wear my uniform.

I've mentioned this in numerous threads, but here i go again:

Unless you are observing proper 'flag etiquette' (i.e. raising/afixing them in the morning, lowering/removing them at sunset etc) then you are 'insulting' the flag and therefore also insulting the nation to which the flag belongs - in this instance England, or Georgia, or Genoa, or Sardinia etc etc.

My understanding of it is that you should only display one flag on a bike, and it should be to the riders RHS. On cars they should be mounted on the front wing, not from the roof or rear windows.

Thumbs Up

Next time one of those bloody flags hit me on the motorway or A road. I WILL put my foot though the window of the driver! They are downright dangerous when people lack the brain cells to remove them from their windows when on fast roads! Doesn't mind me that you're losing 5mpg+ on your car though

As mistergixer said - you are insulting the flag and thus presumably the country of England too.

Me, I was considering riding my bike when the 'England' games are on. Usually nice empty roads, just make sure you get back before all the tossers spill out.

Two points:

1.) Our national flag is the Union flag which looks like this:
https://images.clipartof.com/small/24885-Clipart-Illustration-Of-A-Rippling-Red-White-And-Blue-Union-Jack-Flag-Or-The-Union-Flag.jpg

Being patriotic to a reigon or principality is actually tantamount to treason. Just ask the Spanish about the Basque seperatists!

Secondly, the acclaimed regency scholar Dr Samuel Johnson once said "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel".

Oscar Wilde once said "Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious" and

Leo Tolstoy defines patriotism as the principle that justifies the training of wholesale murderers.

Bertrand Russell once said "Patriotism is the willingness to kill and be killed for trivial reasons".

George Bernard Shaw once said "Patriotism is the conviction that your country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it".

Mark Twain once said "The soul and substance of what customarily ranks as patriotism is moral cowardice — and always has been."

I say: Patriotism is nothing but a hangover from Tribalism. Football is the Drinking Binge that caused the hangover.

Being as i am a dyed-in-the-wool pedant, i have to take slight issue with your post Marje:

The Union Flag is the flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and is composed of 3 national flags: the cross of St.George, the saltire of St.Andrew, and the saltire of St.Patrick.
Note that the Welsh flag does not feature on the Union Flag because by the time the Union Flag was 'invented', Wales was a conquered nation and 'part' of England (plus, as we all know, they're filthy sheep shagging taffy bastards).
The cross of St.George is the 'superior' flag, as denoted by the positioning of the cross of St.George over the other saltires.
So, the individual flags incorporated into the union are still the flags of the individual nations of the union. Therefore, it is perfectly acceptable for the individual nation states to display their own national flags, and not 'treasonous' as you mention.
There are certain regulations on the display of both the Union Flag and the individual crosses, especially on public and/or government buildings, vehicles etc, and there are certain dates when the national flags may be displayed upon such buildings etc.
As a general rule, the Union Flag takes precedence over the national flag(s), and should be displayed in a superior position i.e. to the left of the observer's position if more than one national flag is displayed, or in the highest position if there are 3 or more flagpoles.
I may be wrong on this, but i believe that the Union Flag is considered the property of the reigning monarch, and does not 'belong' to us mere common subjects.

Our England flag has been subverted by nationalists and football facists. Most of them have the word 'England' across the centre which is no doubt treasonous. Plus I was mainly concentrating on the patriotism part! Wink

For me, the fundamental problem with patriotism is that I can think of a thousand reasons to align myself with people that are better than the fact I was born in the same country as them.

So Luke, there's you, the OP and the Patriot who like football so far.

I think you'll find that is a minority.
