What blog?

I'm going on a big motorbike tour of the UK in a couple of weeks.

I want to keep a blog so my girlfriend and folks can keep up to date with where I am and what I'm doing.

BUT

It's a kind of treasure-hunt/route finding thing I'm doing and I'll get disqualified if I post details of the checkpoints on the internet.

I will also be using crappy dongle/hotspot internet unless I can find someone to leech off.

It would be good to upload pictures though.

So, I need:
1) The ability to only allow a very limited number of people to access it initially.
2) The ability to upload pictures.
3) An uncomplicated user interface that doesn't rely on a fast internet connection.
4) Nothing to do with Yahoo or MSN.

I don't mind paying a reasonable amount if it will be quick and easy to use with no flash advert/popup fuckwittery.

Suggestions/recommendations?

If I could manage scathing rants in the middle of Siberia on pentium 1 133mhz PCs on a 28.8kbps connection so can you.

Walter went to even more remote places and managed to upload pictures too on worse connections.

I'd say google blogger too, but one of endless other options would be a closed group on facebook.

I favour WordPress myself but it's not quite so easy to set up, extremely powerful and endlessly customisable though. Blogger is also pretty decent and works "out of the box" as it were.

I'd set up my own website, have a blank default index.htm, with a landing page I'd give out to those I want to have access. The landing page would then just contain a list of diary entries, each with their own page. I'd only need a basic html template for each page, and I'd use FTP to publish it, that day's photos and an altered list page. Once it's over, swap the default index page with the real one. The "stinkwheel.info" domain is available, too

Otherwise, I'd use Blogger.
