The Hayabusa, ZX12R and ZZR1200 are all restricted to 186mph - so its those. Although I'm not sure if the new BMW is restricted, if not then it may well be faster.

If those bikes hadn't ben restricted, then I think the 'busa would still be the fastest.

At the moment its the Hayabusa as McJam says.

Both the ZZR12 and ZX12 are restricted due to an an EU Directive passed in 2001, so most older hayabusa's are unrestricted but the new ones are Confused.

I still prefer the ZZR1100 thought the first true 170MPH+ motorcycle (from the E model onwards anyway, cos the C & D's were restricted to 125BHP)

Hayabusa is still the fastest production. Think the Blackbird (CBR1100XX) is also up there (was second a while back).
Opinion appears to be the Honda is more usable than the Suzuki Wink

I believe the fastest production bike to be the Marine Turbine Technologies Y2K Turbine superbikes. It is powered by a jet engine, and in 15 seconds from a standing start it can reach 217mph. So I reckon that this would leave things like a 'Busa and a ZX12R standing. Twisted Evil

we have proved time and again that the zx12 is faster than the Hayabusa in the same state of tune

in stock trim neither of them will easily hit the limiter, it's very dependent upon conditions on the day, but putting the same rider on 12s and busas under the same conditions nearly always shows the 12 to be faster

and it gets there quicker

not by much mind

forget what you read in magazines and brochures, we have done it many, many times under controlled conditions on closed runways with 100% accurate timing gear

I cannot recall a single busa hitting the limiter in stock trim at 300kph

12s do

there is nothing else capable of 300kmh out of the crate whatever you may read

But MR C, how come the 12's not been oficially recorded as the fastes then? Just like the ZZR1100, Blackbird and Busa were?

Officially by who?

there's no such thing

the GBOR says "The Hayabusa is claimed to be the world's fastest motorcycle"

they never tested it against anything, just took Suzuki's word for it Rolling Eyes

check any (and I mean any) review comparing the 12 and busa in the last two years and the 12 is always fastest

Bike
Fast Bikes
Performance Bikes

they've all done it and all reached the same conclusion which bears out what we have found

in May at one of our events my bike was the fastest zx12 with no engine mods with me on board at just shy of 196mph

the fastest busa with a smaller guy on board was just over 196mph, less than a quarter of a mph faster than me

so we took the fastest 12 and the fastest busa and put the smallest and fastest guy in the club on both (he is a busa rider and has rarely ridden 12s)

he rode mine to 198.12 and the busa to just over 196, the same speed as the owner

same rider, same day, same conditions result = zx12 fastest

this was followed by a reasonably experienced drag racer who has NEVER, EVER ridden a zx12 and has never done a flyer who got on mine and went 198.10.

the next fastest bike was not a engine modded busa - they were all slower

it wasn't even a nitrous busa, they were all slower

it took a turbo busa to be faster than my zx12

mind you Big CC project pisstake did 222.1 mph but that's another story (running over 500bhp for that run) Shocked Cool

Aint the Busa in the Guinness book of records or something. I remember watching something about their official test runs.

It's a bit acedemic really, 160mph is way too fast to ride on 90% of British roads so the fact my bike is restricted to 186 is a waste of time, cos no one who should be riding would ever try to reach that speed! Besides all top speeds of prod bikes are blueprint values, i.e they were devised from figures produced by the prototypes during final testing. The tests would have been carried out under near perfect conditions by very experienced test riders. The ZZR 1100 was indeed a fine quick bike, i had two late models. But trust me having ridden them plus the ZZR1200 the 1200 is a lot faster because it handles it a lot better! Craig you should try riding these machines, looking at your profile i see you have not been riding very long and was wondering what your judgements are based on? I fail to see how you could have ridden both machines to their fullest potential to come to a decision. Confused

I own a bike mainly for the purpose of going that fast

It is all done on closed runways

Demonic read my post re: GBOR

the entry says "the Hayabusa is claimed to be the fastest bike"

they never tested or verified this, just read the Suzuki brochure

I have seen and participated in many back to back tests.

It is close but the busa is not the fastest.

simply wrong

the zx12r WILL hit the 186mph limiter out of the box

I've seen it done and I've been pretty damn close myself when my bike was totally stock, mirrors on and everything

I have also seen unlimited bikes get near 190mph in the same trim

speed is scary!!! if i get a bike (i bloody hope i do) i cant imagine ever wanting to go above 100. i guess my fear kind of gives me respect for them and not to push them over there limit. Of course I'd have traffic light duals with lads who think there 14 year old nova is a sports car Rolling Eyes

This will change once you are on a bike and have your bike legs.

I am not a sporty person, I do not want to thrash a bike until it screams. I got all my speed out on a race track years ago, a much safer environment.

I still do over a ton on the motorway if it is safe enough to do so.
