I bought a boring plain silver helmet when I started.... but it's comfy and not cheap so I'm not about to buy a new one just for a pattern. One of these:

Then I went to a bike show the other day, and saw a helmet with a skull design.... including eye sockets and nose bone over the visor! A bit of research lead me here and the UK resellers here.

I left out some of the more evil designs from my choice as I have a young daughter and didn't want to scare her every day (just some days Wink ) so mixed and matched - tribal flames for the cover, fire eyes for the visor.

Helmet with cover and clear visor (with sunstrip):

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/defblade/bike%20stuff/02helmetback.jpg

I cut holes in the cover to screw the visor mounts through - they were going to be a pain under the cover and I may want to change to visors more often Wink (I've been mostly wearing clear+sunstrip in all weathers for the last 6 months)

Fitted the full sticker to a clear visor:

Then I also cut the eyes out of a second sticker, and mounted them on a dark visor - slightly higher so they're out of my main sight line. As you can see below, the sticker cuts the amount of light coming through less than a plain dark visor, but I'm not sure yet if I like the slightly dappled effect you end up with. I may cut those eyes out and leave them on a clear, like I've done with the dark, if I don't get on with it riding.... should still give most of the effect.

Just wondering how long until I'm pulled for a quiet word? (I'll have my plain clear visor with me now, just in case of rain, night time or BiB Wink ).

Are these those fabric things that stretch over the helmets? There was a thread about them a while ago. What's the quality like?

I don't like the idea of the visor though, can you see through it alright?

Should be no noticeable effect looking through the visor, same material that is used in vehicle wrapping / bus back windows, called contravision. The holes come in varying sizes to allow more or less light through.

Certainly

It may just be a result of the photo angle etc, but the 'eyes' don't look very well lined up to me.
The more i look at the pictures, the more it appears that your right eye (left eye in the pics) is higher than the other.

Confused

The lid looks ok, but the visor looks a bit odd.

I'm not convinced they're 100% straight and level either, but I don't think anyone will see me long enough to start with the spirit level Wink

In fact, my whole face/head thing seems to be off somehow as when I put on my helmet, my face doesn't sit down the center line of the helmet?! It's very comfy to wear tho, and I don't get crowds following through the streets shouting "freak" and throwing stuff, so I guess what ever's up with my head shape isn't too bad...

@Rapdude - yeah, I saw my tie too. In from work, package on side with new toy in... sod getting changed, I want to play Smile

The fabric is much tougher/thicker than I expected so I reckon it'll last OK... too grey outside to try the silly visors today tho Sad

Skull skins? Are they the ones that had the BCF discount code?

Edit: That was helmet skinz (snigger at the name).

I don't like it. I think if it was painted it would look better. But even still, I'm not a fan of most 'flames' designs.

I especially don't like the eyes. So tacky.

But I think the idea of covering a tatty lid is a good idea. Or preserving a expensive paint job during commutes or something.

Do they make shark skins for helmets? A clear plastic covering to prevent chips and scratches? I'm sure they do, and I'm sure you make your own fairly easy after a visit to hobby craft. Any way I'm conversing with myself.

One thing... Would a fabric like that 'grab' if you had an off? I'm sure being so thin it would tear. But I wouldn't like the risk of it twisting my head off.
