I have breakdown cover courtesy of BCF recomendation ... 30 quid, no access ... recover to garage .. orhome if garage can't fix ...

My take on this is wait til late afternoon and qualify for lift home ..

Anyway, being as i'm a well known retard, is there any tools i should stil take on long travels that a moronic m fer could use .. ??

a spanner that will fit the spindle nuts, so you can change a punture!
phillips screwdriver.
flat screwdriver.
pliers.
a good quality adjustable spanner.
plug spanner.
small LED torch if your riding long distances at night! as it will be almost impossible to fix even the most minor problem if you cant see it in the first place
small roll of electrical tape.

that lot should get you out of most minor mechanical situations you might find yourself in.
and it wont take up to much room.
it`s what i would/do/will take with me when i`m going on longer trips/rides.

i`m sure someone else will be along shortly to tell me & you what else we need to be tacking if i`ve missed something

Well i've got an all in one tourch and first aid kit, my tyres are tubleless, so i'd be fucked to know what to do with them ...

Will take most of what you listed and hope for the best, tis why i got breakdown cover ..

Tubeless repair kit is maybe a good idea. eg. this

I've never had to use mine but it looks straightforward enough, doesn't take up much room and could save you waiting somewhere to get picked up when you could fix it yourself.

I normally carry two adjustable spanners with me and a mini toolkit which has smaller sockets, screw drivers and pliers in it for fiddly bits. So far, along with some insulation tape and cable ties, it's been all I've ever needed.

As far as parts are concerned you might want to consider a spark plug (and the tool to get it out), and maybe even a spare bulb if plan on thousands of miles of night riding. Some people carry tire stuff (I have a spare tube) and a spare chain link. Some people have a spare hi-vis jacket and an emergency blanket for if they get stranded in the cold.

All depends on where you're going, the further abroad you go then the more tools you should probably take. I'm not quite sure on the suggestion of a spindle spanner/socket so you can change a tyre, any garage you go to will be able to do that, the only reason you might want to is if you have tubed tyres, which you don't or to adjust your chain, which shouldn't need adjusting on a weekend away.

In the UK you're never going to be that far from help so it's not necessary to take every possible tool but the basics are needed and most of them are in your bike toolkit, a tyre repair kit as mentioned is probably very wise, cable repair kit less so if your bike is brand new. Bulbs aren't that necessary unless you plan to ride a lot at night and only have one headlight, available so easily.
