Hi all, i have decided my tyres are knackered. They have tread, but the rubber is quite corroded (well atleast it dont seem up to much in my VHO) and the back does tend to shuffle about a hell of a lot. And the front locks under pretty much any braking.

Just wondering if anyone knows (and i have searched the web but cant seem to find any non american etc) the price of tyres for front and back either metzeler me-1's or Pirelli Diablos or dunlop d-102's of profiles;

Front tyre 110/70-17
Rear tyre 140/70-17

There is also talk of slightly changing the profile of the rear tyre as it alledgedly changes its handling characteristics, has anyone got any imput on whether i should stick with that size or maybe go to 80?

Also to save time (i know this /should/ go in workshop but hey, im a rebel Laughing) what is the general signs of a fooked clutch? Mine if you dump it seems to respond a little afterwards, not instantly. Also gears sometimes snick in and sometimes you have to boot it alot. Also it occasionally just decides it wants to be in neutral which its only started doing in the last week or so. I have changed the oil, filter, and some oil hoses, so it should be ok for that.

Thanks in advance for any help, sorry for being cheeky, i promise to answer the next 'how to derestrict a 50cc' post if you like Mr. Green Karma

Regards

Richard

I have spent the past hour looking for tyres, and ones that i have found that would fit are pirelli sports demons (altho im nto certain they arent tubless, of they are that would annoy me alot), but has anyone got any feeback on them?

Bearing in mind my bikes probably only kicking out about 25 bhp (alledgedly 33 but we all know they lie) and they are designed to work best from 130-150 ish i think, 130 + anyway and my bikes top end is pretty much level ton.

Regards richard

Ps they are 135 a pair

Dunlop GPR70SP's and GPR80's are available from most places in those sizes. You could go Bridgestone BT-090 front, and put a BT90 on the rear if you can find one.

The BT90 is very sticky but was discontinued a couple years back, I was still able to get them for the RGV from biggish tyre places though. Thinking about it you could probably get an 090 rear for that too.

i believe i have a dunlop gpr 70/80 (i forget) at the moment on the back, and its NOT the one everyone thinks is fab, its the other one. Kind of put me off the budget dunlops. It wheelspins constantly, even when warm. In fact it does have an unnerving habit of wheelspinning mid corner occasionally. As for my front i think its an avon or summit, btu again, even when hot, it locks so easily under braking. And thats with on two of my 4 pistons working in the front caliper. When i sort that out i really really need to uprate the tyres.

I think the previous owner had it a fair length of time and they just got old and corroded without being worn, as there is lots of tread on there, just no confidence if you catch me.

But these speed demons look ok, reasonable price. All that worries me is they might not warm up at a low enough speed for me. but ill only be pushing them on long rides, and i also think theres no better way to warm up the back then some nice wheelies.

But thanks for your help guys. Just it seems i have a slightly unorthodox tyre set, and i wish to have identical tyres front and back (obviously different sizes but you catch my point) just as i feel they are better desigmed to work as a pair.
On sunday i gunned the bike on cold tyres coming out of work, wheel span, lost the back a good foot or so sideways (it was a culmination of lean, cold tyres, acceleration and drain cover... i was trying to get out of the carpark full of cars and my main concentration was on them, but lesson well learnt) and it actually slid enough to ground the sump plug bolt. Its got a nice bit ground out of it now. Im sick of stuff like that happening really, just want a nice grippy set of tyres, even if they dont last as long.

I came up behind some cage at 90 and she decided cornering above 20 was suicide and so was creepign round my favourite bend which most cars do at like 60 at least. I whack on the front and it locked at least 4 times, had to keep coming on and off of it just to stop from sliding into her.

Hi

Think those sizes are used in a fair few older sports 125s, such as the Aprilia Futura. As such I think there are quite a few tyres to fit.

What size rims does the Goose have?

All the best

Keith

Those are alledgedly the sizes for my bike

Front tyre 110/70-17
Rear tyre 140/70-17

but i doubt they are the size for 125's cos the rear tyre on the goose is like tractor sized.

Its weird you're having problems with the Dunlops. I've never had any problems with wheelspin or lack of grip on 60-odd bhp 400. Confused

The RS125 uses a 150/60 17 rear tyre, so 10mm wider and 8mm lower. Think the Futura did run a 140/70 rear tyre, as did the very early versions of the Mito (possibly only the unfaired version they sold for a while). Couple of others that used that size are the later TZR125, the late model Aprilia AF1 Sintesi and the Kawasaki ZZR250.

Metzler ME1 was available in that size as an S rated tyre (up to 112mph), and the MEZ1 radial as H rated.

All the best

Keith

Why not shod it in some nice Bridgestone Battlax BT45's?

Cost about £160 Max for the pair, and they'd last longer (I got 11,000 Miles from a pair!) , have decent grip in the wet and dry and generally a decent tyre IMO.

Oooooo, thats cheap!

Problem I have up here is not that many places do Bike Tyres so the ones that do can charge. :S

Plus I payed £153.35 for the BT45's fitted and the wheel were on the bike to so they had to take them off.
