CHR15 and allymoss and 2 others's trip to France

Tomorrow morning we are heading off on a trip to France. Here is a map of the planned route.

First day (Saturday) Me and CHR15 ride down to Hayling Island and relax for an afternoon. I am going pillion on his bike.
Sunday Morning at 4am, other 2 join us and we head off for the Portsmouth ferry terminal. Over to Cherbourg and another 200+ miles to a place near Callac.

We are there for a week and will take lots of pics.

Then allymosses cousin turned up (who's pretty fit tbh)

Her car broke down, which turned out to be a fried plug on coil.

Then another cousin and a random blond turned up.

Both girls are pretty drunk and everyone's getting stoned.

Which was even funnier for me, cos I wasn't drinking.

Then his cousin starts spazzing out, I videoed it and she started.
Attacking me with a teatowel.

Then somehow we ate a whole loaf of bread.

We've not even been going 24 hours lol.

Got back this morning at 6am. Long ass story, I have been in bed all day and only just got up because we didn't sleep for a while before hand.

Anyway, CHR15 is going to do a proper write up with pictures I think in a bit.

Saturday 12th june

Me and Chris left Crewe at 9am for Hayling Island. Was all ok till the fuel pump died 20 minutes into the journey so tank off and that was removed and we relied on gravity from then on to feed the fuel.
An hour or 2 later, we stopped at a services and noticed the exhaust had burnt a hole in the RH side pannier. Not to worry, we went on BCF via my phone and asked for advice. In the end we managed to just wedge it higher up and Chris didn't seem to notice any major handling issues.

Anyway, we got to Hayling around 2pm and just fiddled with the bike, made sure everything was tight and secure.

My cousin then turned up and her car had just "gone weird" about 300m up the road. After a bit of fiddling around, we diagnosed one of the coils had fried itself so it was in limp home mode.

More people arrived and we had some drinks and shmoke.

Sunday

Phil and Riz, the other 2 that were with us for the main trip arrived and we had lots of coffee and set off. Got to the ferry which was only 15 miles away in no time and overall a fairly nice ride over to France. We were going from Portsmouth to Cherbourg.

Got off the ferry and on our way, with plenty of stops. McDonalds seemed to end up as a food stop as it was the only place that looked open. We got to the place we were staying, an old mill near Carhaix at about 9pm and sorted beds and went to sleep.

Monday

Shopping was important so we headed to that famous French supermarket, Lidl's for the some groceries, and by groceries I mean croissants, brioche, crepes, coke, beer, more beer, bread, butter and crepes and croissants and some beer.

Fully stocked we relaxed in the not so warm weather. Definitely needed a jumper on at this point.
Of course I had some assistance in making a couple of evenings even more enjoyable.

Tuesday

We had a wander around Carhaix and had the best donner kebab I have ever had. Really good, not just a tube of meat, slices of meat put onto a stick like it should be done. Not much riding done on this day, just relaxing having a look around. Also had a play around on the bikes on a big car park.

Wednesday

We headed for St Brieuc which was about 40 miles away and it had sun sand and sea. Very nice but not much to do there apart from this sort of stuff.

Thursday

The whole reason we were staying in this old mill was so we could paint the main living room. We get a week free in it, he gets painting done so we did most of that and tidied up a bit. Chopped lots of wood for the fire aswell.

Chris got his knee down for the first time aswell on one of their nice roundabouts.

Friday

We went to Brest. The actual city was almost third world, had dusty stone pavements and arabs running around and it was 28-29 degrees. Got the sat nav out and picked somewhere just north of there but by the coast because Brest is basically a big port not a beach. We ended up in a nice small village and some epic roads which we followed around to a beach. Looked Mediterranean even though it was the Atlantic.

Saturday

We stayed in and cleaned the house more and chopped lots of wood.

Sunday

The plan was get the ferry from Cherbourg at 4pm, back in UK by 9pm, home by 1-2am. This didn't quite go to plan.

Woke up at 7am, left by 8am. We went straight to St Malo and were there for 10:15am where we planned to have lunch and leave by half 12 to get the ferry.

There was a dam with a bridge that could be raised and lowered meaning occasional traffic jams, meaning bikes filtering to the front meaning effectively a 1km flat, straight clear stretch of road for all the bikers to nail it down so we got a couple of pics.

We also saw a 98 R1 going round. Saw it quite a few times. Didn't managed to get a picture in its natural habitat, it was quite elusive. First you hear it, then you see it and by the time you get the camera turned on it is nowhere to be seen.

Got a phone call saying the ferry had had a fire and was now cancelled but luckily they were putting on an express ferry from St Malo but it was going to Poole and rather than getting into the UK at 9pm, it would get in at past midnight.
We we had to take it, so spent the afternoon around St Malo and trying to get some sleep.

Ferry was horrible tbh. It was one of those sea cats which means it sways in the slightest swell.
Off that and we headed home, M27, A34, M40, M5, M6.

Just as we were going through Newcastle, I could smell burning so we pulled over and the RH pannier was smoking. Pulled all the stuff out onto the road and it was properly on fire now. Poured lemonade all over it and I think out of all the clothes I took, 1 t shirt and 1 jumper thing survived. My only way of charging my phone was melted into a ball aswell.

Eventually got home around 6am. Slept until 5pm.

I've been to Brest. What a shit hole. Bombed in the war and rebuilt using Frances finest concrete.

The Kawasaki is a Z1000, Yamaha is an MT-01.
