was on the bike doing a gentle 30 in a 30 and had a car reverse out of a row of parking spaces next to some shops, woman reveresed into the side of me at the back half of the bike. knocked the bike sideways but somehow managed to keep it upright using skill (well luck) and me screaming FUUUUUUUCK several times.

absolutely no damage done to the bike other than a bit of scratched paint. only damage was to my boxers. was bloody lucky i wasnt going any slower or else i would had ploughed right into the back of the 4x4.

i pulled over afterwards and she got out the car and just kept saying sorry over and over again. no harm was done so i just got back on the bike.

hopefully i dont get a letter saying she's gonna claim for damaged paintwork on her car or some crap like that.

well luckily it wasnt my bike so i wouldnt have had to pay for repairs if the worst thing happend Dance! (its a pizza hut scooter)

Good to hear you are ok Thumbs Up

But, as usual with these events, you will have learnt something.
(lifes like that).
ie: If you had been speeding you would have been past that point before the car even pulled out.
Lesson learnt huh! Them 30mph limits are dangerous.

Go and report it to the police, or you can get 6 points for failing to report an accident!

There probably was some small damage to the wheel or something, but as its a pizza hut scooter I don't think anybody cares Smile

Pft.

How are the police going to know if you and her don't tell them. Rolling Eyes

Use a bit of common sense. Smile

I thought they only really cared about getting a report if there was an injury?

Correct.

As long as details have been exchanged and there are no injuries, Old Bill are happy.

Not corrent, I got 5 points for failing to report an accident, no inuries.

Report it incase she reports it saying you hit her, just to be on the safe side. They will just give you a police report number, you can do it over the phone.

Then you got screwed - or didn't stop and provide details, or caused damage to road fixtures, etc etc.

Damage only = no report as long as both parties exchange details.

Exceptions include damaging council-owned road furniture, livestock, stuff like that.

If that person finds a scratch on there car, and decides to claim it was your fault, and no details were swapped, then you CAN get done for Failing to report.

I would do it to be on the safe side, it would take 2 minutes and save you alot of greif if something did come from it!

So my initial statement - which you poo-pooed - was correct. If you exchange details in a damage only (with no aggravating factors) then there is no obligation to report to police.

If people choose to make shit up afterwards there isn't much you can do about, sadly there are a lot of twats out there.

I can't believe I missed that - that's the only legal obligation that matters on these forums!
