Hi all.

Well all was well & bike was fine pulled up turned it off. Went back to start it and starter motor was spinning but not engaging the engine.

bump started it and then code Fault Code 46 on the display.

No fault showing in DIAGNOSTICS on the bike but does show 46 below the speedo.

Error 46 - Vehicle system power supply (Monitor voltage)
Power supply to the FI system relay is not normal
startability = Unable, drivability = Able

So i'm guessing the relay is where I start but any help would be great.

Tested battery and its at 12v.

Was that measured when the engine was running? Should be about 14 or so then.

sounds likew something to do with fuel injection system

ie when you crank the engine, so much power is going to the starter motor that the fuel injection (FI) doesn't have enough power to power the injectors.

When you say the starter motor spins, does the engine not turn?

Even if the battery is 12v it could be weak.

Try jump starting and if that fixes the problem then your battery is past its best

Also check the voltage when the engine is running, if its not near 14 then the bike might not be charging the battery any more and thats why the battery has got weak in the first place.

Can a battery be ok on volts but low on amps??
Would that stop it working?

What you will find is if you put the multimeter across the battery while you hit the starter button you will get a voltage drop. If this drop is too much then the starter wont turn.

Possible, checking the voltage with the engine running should help you with that. If its stable around 14 its fine, if its moving up and down with revs or low then somethings wrong with the charging system.

OK Battery Charged @ 12.7v
Tried to turn bike over Error 46 still there - starter spinning not engaging!
Bump started it - error 46 goes away.

Volts check reads 12.4 running at idle
revved it 5k 13.62v and again 14.30v

Set off for a run and stalled the thing in heavy traffic, Still wouldn't start off the Starter so I bump started it again.

Took it for a 12 mile trip.
Got home checked the volts running @ 12.20v
Revved and only got 12.50v?

Stopped the engine and tried to start it and.....

It started? WFT?

Now where do I go from here? NEW Battery or Alternator?

On the surface it looks like your battery is knackered.

If it gets sulphated, it holds less and less current so eventually the current will not be enough to turn the motor over and operate the FI/ignition at the same time.

If it spins but the engine doesnt turn, then get the cover off and inspect
