OT Photoshop

I've had photoshop for a while now but not really used it for anything good. I want to play around with changing the colour/appearance of bikes or cars. Does anybody fancy giving me any tips or a walk through talk through of how to do this?

I can't remember who showed me how to do this, but it is a great trick, hover your mouse over the image.

Not brilliant, but I am still learning how to use it.....

This is one of my avatars, took a pic of my ugly mug, black and whited it, then darkened the picture and added lens flare to the eyes, then put my name at the top. Duplicate the layer, mess with blending options and you have a sort of button.....

to change a vehicals colour, select the wand tool, and click the area of colour, if it selects too much chance set the tolerance lower, if it selects too litle turn it up. also try using lightness and hue as your selection criteria.
Once you have the colour selected simply adjust its huge untill you get the desired colour

Ah, I used the lasso! Is the wand a better way of doing that?

Also I notice that Huge and saturation do not effect black and white colours much. I guess I could use the colour pallet for them?

The magic wand can be an easier way of doing it, depending upon the colours you wish to change.

The wand allows you to select pixels within certain limitations (colour difference) when selected. e.g. if you select a blue bike, with the word Yamaha on it, all the blue bits of a similar hue/colour will be selected, and the word Yamaha (if in a suitably different colour) will not be selected.

However, if there is sunlight or shade on the colour, it will change it, and it may change it enough not to select it.

A cool tool, is the "stamp" tool. It allows you to copy bits of the image and put them elsewhere using the stroke command.

What the hell, now the image has changed to a woman, where on earth is this linking to.

It was a bird that had been graphically merged with a cats head.

I guess the pictures are random, are you now seeing a woman as well, or still a bike?

If you are seeing a bike, do "ctrl F5" to force a refresh.... Confused

Gaaaad you must have thought I was mad going on about birds and cats....

It's the attachments system on the forum, it's borked, it likes to randomly changes images to ones other poeple have attached.

Well do it, cos it would take eons to give out tips on Photoshop. I use it daily in my job and still find out about new stuff as and when the time arises that I need to tweak something in a different way.

You can also get really good online tutorials from Adobe if you join their site - its free. Plus look out for MacWorld Plus and Computers Arts magazines (cost £6) but defo worth the price for decent Photoshop tutorials.

The other way of learning is to give yourself a task and work thru the programme until you acheive what you want.
