Hi Everybody.

I have just turned 17 and am interested in buying a 125 cc motorbike.

one problem is that I am 6' 3.5" tall.

what bike would you recommend (preferably under £3k


was thinking about the honda CBR125R.

(i am from the UK btw).

With that kind of money you are looking at brand-new bikes for the most part.
Go to a few dealers, look at the bikes, get them to drag the ones you like the look of out the stack for you to sit on.
Pick what's most comfortable.
for tall-folk, long legged trail bikes can work well, seat heights good, but with high ground clerance you can be just as scrunched when you put your feet on the pegs!
So if POSSIBLE get the delaer to make sure the bike is on a centre stand or paddock stand and dont just sit straddle it, get your feet on the pegs!
'Scrunched up' race-reps can be the converse to trailies, with rear set pegs, and not be as cramped!
BUT, starting out, old failthful sit-up street-bike, something boring like a CBF125 gives you fewer compromises and is normally a good fit for most.... be my starting point least-wise.

On your height, make sure you sit on a few bikes before you buy one! Had this convo on this forum with Kingshill, but im about 5'8/9 and I felt cramped on a cbr125. Had my heart set on one before did my CBT. Then sat on one and a few other bikes and god help me its a small bike!

Other sporty 125's are Yamaha YZF, Hyosungs, Rieju RS2's, all of them 4 strokes. Also see Aprillas and NSR 2 strokers for a more sexy 125 race rep.

I'm the same height as you mate, the cbr125 is waaaay too small, couldnt even fit my arse on the seat I stood next to one in the bike shop and didn't realise it was what it was, I thought it was one of those midi moto's. Best best would be a crosser/supermoto style or a xl125 varadero, cracking bikes (my first bike). If your really after a sports bike then a yzfr125 is a good size (although don't boast about owning one here) and I think hyosungs are pretty big.

I would highly reccommend the xl125 varadero, big bike looks (and feel), good road presence, comfy, will hit 70 and cruise at 65 no worries. Can be picked up in good nick for less than 2k, honda reliability. Stick an aftermarket can on and let the vtwin roar I had a scorpion can on mine and they dealer who bought it off me was shocked by the noise

+1 Varadero. An excellent 125 (wish I'd had the money to get one but the YBR is still great).

i would have to say the vandero or hyosung gt/gtr125. if you have a fair bit of money then why not do your test and get a decent sized bike? if you don't like the idea of a lot of power keep it restricted. 33bhp isn't a huge amount of power.

Any bike with a bench type seat.

I'm 6'4 and spent a comfortable two years on a CG125 because I could choose my seat position, most sports bikes tend to force you into the seating position of a 5'6 japenese bloke...

i'm 6'4" ride a honda NSR (2 stroke) much quicker and better looking than anything mentioned thus far but quite cheap for your price range i have no problem spending a few hours at a time in the seat without discomfort (and don't look like I stole it from a child) , really you need to get your hands on a few bikes to try out see what suits you have fun!
