Can I expect from a trackday on my tyres?

I've got a trackday on August 11th at Snetterton, and I'll be using the 595 and the GSXR, but seeing as the tyres on the 595 are virtually brand new, and the rear on the GSXR has only covered about 500 miles it'd be nice not to destroy them in one day. Am I going to be looking at a new set of tyres on both after just a day? Bear in mind, both get used pretty much on a daily basis, so it'd be nice if I could still get some use out of them for a while once I've had my bit of fun.

Cheers, Thumbs Up

They'll be fine. Thumbs Up

Have fun.

You won't need a new set after, and people seem to greatly exaggerate the amount that trackdays chew up yours tyres and brakes. In my experience it's not a huge difference.

About the same amount of wear as a "spirited" days rideout...
assuming the bike(s) stay the right way up on the track Thumbs Up

Judging by your avatar you've got 2ct's on the gsxr.

I got 5,000 road miles and two trackdays out of a rear on my 900ss.

You'll be fine. Thumbs Up

There Pilot Power's, thought they're a little bit softer than the 2CT's? Glad to know I wont be looking at a £500 odd tyre bill, cheers lads!

As you can tell this'll be my first trackday (I'm doing the Ron Haslam race school at Silverstone on the 15th of next month, but that wont be on my bike), and it seems a lot of BS is spoken about what happens to tyres after a hard day on a track.

Thumbs Up

Can easily chew other tyres too.

A well setup bike with tyres that aren't overheating won't chew tyres - but very few of us are good enough to get bikes setup that well.

Riding harshly will tear up tyres.
Riding harskly from cold is definitely not good for tyres.

However, from your average trackday you'll find any 'damage' will soon be smoothed out with some road riding.

While I'd swap tyres every race weekend or more often, I'm still happy to get a decent number of trackdays out of a set of tyres.

He's using 2 bikes, so 2 sets of tyres, at £250 a set, is £500 Razz

You'll be fine though, Iv'e done a few trackdays on the same race rubber before, and got some road miles out of it aswell.

So the real question is can I do a set of tyres in half a trackday? If you can you're an absolute hero. Laughing

Laughing

I wish. I'm going with a mate, so both bikes will be getting ridden all day.
