router problem

can anyone help me please.
i have a belkin N wireless router. and in my house i have-

4 laptops
2 ps3
1 iphone

all connecting through this.and it seems to take it in turns to blocking a computer from connecting saying the computer doesnt have full access to the network and wont connect also putting a yellow icon on the network icon in the system tray.
the way to solve this is only by reseting the router and then the computer will connect. but later on when someone in the house tries to use their laptop it wont let them...
why is this? does a router only have a certain amount of connections it will allow?

your router can handle up to 253 clients so thats not the issue.

if your using DHCP then ensure all your devices are set that way with no other IP addresses configured.

if your not using DHCP then ensure all the devices IP settings are correct for your setup i.e on the same subnet etc.

and consider updating the firmware on the router too.

bugger youve lost me...

it does sometimes say something about another IP has connected ect
how do i update the firmware?

ok.
if your getting IP conflict messages then two or more devices have the same IP address. this is bad.

for your computers ill assume your using windows.


click START --> RUN type cmd and hit enter
type ipconfig /all

your looking for the Description that is the same name as the network card in the pc. below it will say DHCP Enabled - yes/no. note this down. next it will say IP Address. note this down.

on your ps3s this information is in the network settings. i sold mine so cant recall where exactly.

and i dont have a piephone so can tell you where to find it there either.

your looking for duplicate IP addresses and when you find them you need to change them to another address that none of your devices already has. your also better off if all your devices use DCHP or no DHCP. the choice is yours.

and you can get the firmware update for your model of router from www.belkin.com/uk

Just put them on static IP's and see if the problem stops...

ok i understand how to find the IP's but how do i change the IP?
is there something to click that will regenerate them?
how do i put them on static IP's?

go into control panel then network connections and check the TCP/IP properties. you can set DHCP or static in there.
