PostPosted: 17:50 - 14 Jun 2010    Post subject: Shoes for a Scooter. Reply with quote

Hi there,

I recently got knocked off my scooter wearing skater sorta shoes, the shoe stayed on and intact but i managed to do this to my ankle Sick

https://i45.tinypic.com/2lkthxl.jpg

The shoes i was wearing were like this

https://i45.tinypic.com/2qwig0o.jpg

I've tried on Motorcycle boots/Timberland boots etc, but being a size 10, i find them far too bulky for the foot tray and when i need to get my feet off quickly for stopping etc, they are just far to big and clunky to get off the foot tray, to the floor, unlike a proper motorcycle where you just slip your foot from the peg to the floor.

So again i'm looking at something to protect my ankle, i've come across high top type trainers, like the photos below, will these be okay for covering my ankle?

https://i48.tinypic.com/ngwtio.jpg

I want something i dont have to keep changing when i go to Sixth Form, work etc, so with Timberland boots, will something like this be okay?

https://i45.tinypic.com/abnpmc.jpg

Sorry for the lengthy and gruesome first post Very Happy

Get yourself a pair of army surplus boots, much cheaper than the Timberland stuff.

Doc Marten boots - used to wear those all the time when I was a teenager (dim and distant). There's loads of lengths but I would say, based on your post, to avoid steel toe cap ones (quite heavy). The shoes used to be standard issue for coppers on the beat (when they walked) so are mega comfy once worn in. The older they get the better they look. Get boots rather than shoes to protect your ankle if you come off again.

Army boots are gonna be a bit big and bulky

try some proper motorbike boots

loads of secondhand ones on ebay that are cheap

I used to have a gilera runner which was fine in motorbike boots, but army boots would have been a bit bulky. Still useable, but motorbike boots are much better on a scooter.

https://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=hein+gericke+boots+&_cqr=true&_nkwusc=hein+gerick+boots&_rdc=1

Sidi streetburners are low cut, but I doubt they would be comfy to walk in as they are based on race boots, they are also pricey and rarely available secondhand. I'd still quite like some though. I think they look ace.

Haha I used to wear Air Force 1 mids on the 'ped, I came off three times including once breaking my arm and having metal bars put in for 12 weeks, but my ankles and feet were always fine Laughing

Timberlands will be fine to protect against that kind of injury (road rash) wouldn't expect much impact protection though which is a benifit of proper bike boots.

Also I used to ride in timberlands when I was on a 50 and after a few months the sole started to come off, they were built up foam layers rather than a solid sole like that though which didn't help.

Also assuming you're on a scooter can you not wear boots and stick trainers under the seat?

Yeah i can, but things become a lil crowded in there, with my shoes, Sixth form stuff and so on, I don't want to look like a tit either, Motorcycle boots on a Ped just replicates that, I'll prob go for the Timberlands as they will give me ankle protection, the rest of my body was fine, I had Bike Jacket and jeans on, just the low cut shoes that let me down Embarassed Rolling Eyes

Okay thanks ill have a look. Some Timberlands are like £50-£80 but some are alot more expensive yes, However, if i was gonna get Motorcycle boots i'd get SiDi or Alpinestars and they certainly aint cheap!

To be fair, you're a bit of an idiot for considering wearing trainers on a bike anyway IMO.

I bet you don't wear gloves either!

I bought a pair of alpinestars smx 2 short boots a couple of weeks back and I think they are great,of course not as much protection as a full boot but high enough on the sides to protect your ankles. They are low cut above the heel so comfy to walk in, nice for the summer and in my opinion much better looking than the sidi short boots oh and they do a knee/shin pad if you want extra protection too.

I actually do Smile

I have a Buffalo Motorcycle Jacket and Gloves and an AGV Stealth helmet (5 stars on SHARP rating)

I'd NEVER dream riding without my jacket or gloves.
