tinted visors

Ok who knows the score on tinted visors . got a shoei cx1 tinted visor which is stamped daytime use only also says exceeds some rule or summat . Is it legal to use during the blasting midday sun whilst carrying your clear visor???

As far as I'm aware unless it's kite stamped and has the correct BS numbers then it's illegal to use day or night in great britain. Loads of people use them though including myself and never have any problems with coppers. The only legal tint is very light.

Edit: with yours having for day time use only on it I'm not sure, is it a dark tint?

I have a daytime light tinted one, stamped daytime only ...

I assume when the road lights come on, that's when you should not be wearing one ....

I also have a mirored one, which is illegal 24/7 i beleive ... now what i would like to know is it a fine and or points if nabbed for the mirrored one ..

I would like to wear it, but frankly i'm more keen on not giving the coppers any excuse to pull me over ... Rolling Eyes

For a visor to be legal, it must not block out more than 50% of the available light.

What about 'pin lock' tinted sheet things? You can take them off but if you are caught riding with one one and it is too dark then I guess they will have you for it.
Next idea - 'reactolite' (sp?) ones that stick on the inside like a fog city breath guard.

On a serious note you won't be pulled over just for a tinted visor. If you was riding like a doucebag and then they pull you over, they might mention the visor just to ruin your day that little bit more.

Other than that i don't know anybody that has been done purely just for wearing a tinted visor.

Its worth the risk of getting in trouble with the police in my opinion, they are really useful especially when the sun is rising/setting, stops you getting blinded.

Though they aren't so useful when on the motorway during a torrential downpour as I found out last year when in Scotland. All I could see was my dad's tail light in front of me, which was lucky as if he wasn't there I would have been blind Laughing

When I use a tinted visor I like to/try to remember to carry a clear one too.
It's an arse riding at night in rain with a clear visor but it's ten times worse with a tint.
Most polis will do nowt but if they stop you for something else it's better if you can change it. (They say)

I have never been stopped yet.

I think i've ridden on the road maybe 3 times without a tinted visor.
Never pulled for it, been pulled over and it's never been mentioned.

TBH, stop worrying about it, and black visors look good.

Mirrors are for posers.

Right , been paid fine and went into the police station as its next to the court to query the visor laws .
Officer on the desk spoke to traffic dept who said the visor wether tinted or not must have the bs marking on it even though mine has daytime use only

Hi

The appropriate British standards are not only concerning tint, they also control impact and scratch resistance (and no doubt a few other things).

"Daytime use only" is mainly there as the maker covering themselves by telling you not to use it when it is dark, and will probably be on any tinted visor for any market whether the British standards apply there or not. Often they are say "if tinted then daytime use only" as it is molded in and the same molds are used for both normal and tinted visors.
