Hi guys, got a bit of an interesting problem going on.

Every morning when the bike has been left overnight i have trouble starting the bike. I hit the ignition button and all i get is the relay click coming from the back of the bike under the seat every time i hit the starter. some times it cuts the power to the bike for a second and turns back on again, then after a few attempts it will fire the bike in.

It seems to be fine when it has been run but i need to get this sorted before it starts doing it all the time or just stops working all together.

Any ideas of what it could be or how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Will

Is your battery "old", I'd be looking there first!

Either a VERY flat battery, or one of your battery leads is loose.

I'd start by checking the leads, then giving it a good charge.

Cheers boys. Leads are all firm and secure. I only bought he battery a the beginning of the year so I pray it's not that as they are 70 quid!! Shall stick her on trickle charge this afternoon and see what happens. I am only riding 16 miles a day at the mo so it might not be putting enough charge back in it.

Should have thought of that.

Will report back tomorrow. Thanks dudes!

If the leads are secure, and it gets better after a good trickle charge, I'd check the voltage across the battery with the engine running. If it's less than ~14v then it's not charging.

That would explain all the symptoms. For info 16 mile rides would be fine to keep the battery charged.

Cheers gaz! Well it's only 8 miles in morning, then 8 miles in the afternoon. Somewhere I read that it takes a good 10 miles to get a charge. Dunno how true that is now!! Lol

Not really true. While the engine is running it's charging. Certainly when it's above tickover. 8 miles is fine. Report back once youm've charged it and checked the voltage and we can diagnose from there.

Righty ho. Charged The bugger up last night, started perfectly this morning. Tested the charge and it's putting in 14.14 volts with engine on tick over so that's all correct. Shall see if or when it happens again!
