You could always ask them to increase the mileage limit and pay a small fee. Wink

Glad to hear your having fun. Thumbs Up

Well I didn't know you could do so many miles on a ped did I! Razz

Just worked it out. I said I'd do 3000 in the year as that's what I done on the NSR. After 3 months of having the new bike I've done just over 3000 now. Ah well I'm having loads of fun on it. You reckon it's a good idea to tell my insurance company about it if I end up way over what I initially gave?

Thumbs Up Good to hear you're enjoying it. Thumbs Up

As long as they don't know the milage on the bike when you started the policy you should be okay. If you haven't told them what the milage was at the start of the policy they have no way of knowing. Smile

Would my insurance be void if I went over and crashed? Confused

I would always advise people to tell their insurance companies and pay the fee, it's not worth invalidating your insurance over such a small amount of money.

Ste, mileage is recorded on MOT's and other documents so that doesn't really work.

Also I think you can 'voluntarily' put it in V5 when selling the bike.

Whether they would bother to check in such detail via MOTs etc in event of a claim is debatable but then is it worth the risk.

Out of interest what do you think it would cost roughly to add 2000 miles to a policy Danny?

True it is and I forgot that. Unless your bike is under three years old you're going to be caught out with the MOT's. And generally any paperwork that goes with the bike will have the milage written on it by the shop who does any work is at that point.

i would agree if it werent for this poxy restriction law. I know lots take out the restrictors but as a christian i believe that i should follow the law no matter how stupid it is.

if they uped the limit to 55 or 60 bhp that would be more reasonable imo, you can have more fun and so on there but it int in the region of killing yourself without trying power, such as 170bhp....

but i love the 250, and think i might run it into the ground and when i can afford a newer and better bike use it as a winter hack...and im in the process of tarting it up some what....(i think i should have had a r6)

A couple of years back, when my mum was renewing her car insurance, she told them she was doing more than she had originally said, but they didn't bother changing the policy, perhaps didn't even pay attention to her in the first place. Now, she doesn't bother telling them that she's doing 2-3k over the top; they don't seem to care.

I wouldn't go out of your way to tell them before it's up for renewal though, you give them an estimated mileage, if it's a new vehicle with new 'usage patterns' then how are you supposed to be able to know how many?

Yeah the same for me, I didn't think I would do so many miles on a ped, but I have...When I got it, I hadn't a clue how many miles I would do on it, having never rode a motorized vehicle before. Smile

My insurance company asked for the mileage of the bike when I took out my insurance - I stated 3000 miles as annual mileage.

I was honest at the time with the current mileage on the odometer so I will have to contact them when I get near the limit.

Insurance companies don't pay out if they don't have too!

Its better to pay a bit extra than give them an excuse not to pay out if required.

I'm pretty sure that the number of miles you give doesn't make much difference at all to the premium.

After I got my premium down and they would go no cheaper, I started using the extras to bargain with them. They added for free, unlimited miles and pillion cover.

If you are involved in an accident the insurance companies will look very carefully at what your original declaration said about the bike and about you. If they find any discrepencies they will do their damndest to get out of paying out. For the sake of a few quid I would declare accurately. Unless of course you are sure you will never have an accident. Laughing

Not much at all, your best bet is to just ask them. Thumbs Up
