Just been out in the dark (ish) for the first time on the YBR and noticed that the indicators are making the headlight dim (pulsing in time with the indicator).

Before I start pulling things to bits, do you guys reckon this is more likely a battery or an earth problem? As far as I can tell from the haynes they're a common earth. Battery has had 24 hours on the trickle charger last weekend and I was on the way back from a 2 hour ride when I noticed it.

How bad is the dimming? Has it always done it or just started? Mine has always done it a tiny bit, also when I brake the headlight dims very slightly. It's just the nature of the YBR's electrics. I can still run heated grips and my sat nav with no noticable difference on the lights and have been doing so for the best part of 2 years. The battery is original (must be over 4 years old now) but still fine and dandy, I check the specific gravity and top it up every service if it needs it. Thumbs Up

Most probably the battery, have you tested the voltage at stand sitll and at higher revs?

Mine does this on the GS, but it still works fine.

The indicator bulbs are 2x5watt so shouldn't do it really.
Brake light filament is more so to be expected with small bike.
I'd live with it although it may be a symptom of trouble brewing.

Do you know the history of bike well?
Maybe someone put a bigger bulb in to get better lighting and this is a side effect.

But when if you have a low/faulty battery with lights and indicator working alongside low revving, it would cause the headlight to dip no?

What sort of things are you thinking of on the history?

Just that the previous owner might have wanted to improve the rather poor headlight with a bigger bulb.
But it now draws more than the alternator can supply when the brake or indicators are on too.

I've replaced the bulb with a halogen 35/35 rather than the standard cacktastic one that was in there. Battery reads fine, about 13.5 standing, just shy of 15 at 5000 rpm. Does need a topup. Might try flyleading the ground over the weekend to see if it improves it any.
