Silly Germans. Red card looked harsh but they missed a penalty.

Apparently James is going to be replacing Green tonight. Good old Jamo. Thumbs Up

When's the next match then? Do England play against Algeria tonight & Slovenia on the 23rd?

I heard that England can't lose/draw, this right?

Yep.

Don't know the ins and outs of the points needed though.

Slovenia (who I thought were gonna be pants) have taken the lead against the Americans. It's on ITV1 at the moment but I can't watch it at work. Sad

No. We don't NEED a win at this stage, but we'll be in the shit if we don't (especially if Slovenia keep this form up).

Slovenia have just scored a crackin' goal.

As for the German's, they had a properly shite ref. Klose shouldn't of been sent off. The ref was handing cards out like it was Christmas.

Pretty much, they have to win this game to have any chance of going through to the last 16.

But with a stroke of luck, Slovenia are beating USA at the moment 20 mins gone 1-0 to Slovenia Very Happy

Do we want Slovenia to win? The won their first game so will pretty much be through if they beat the US. Which leaves one space up for grabs and if we don't get a win against Algeria it could be a bit touch and go. Laughing

A draw is the best outcome for this match.

If we lose and the USA lose then it's all still to play for. Slovenia would be going through already though.

In the more likely scenario of a draw tonight against Algeria, England would then be second and all they would have to do is beat Slovenia and wouldn't have to rely on other results if the score in the USA game stays the same.

If the scores stay the same and England win, then England would only need a draw against Slovenia to go through, but they would be second, so to get top spot they would need to beat Slovenia.

It get's very complicated though, cause Germany lost to Serbia today, if Ghana win against Australia tomorrow then suddenly it all gets very interesting. Maybe coming second in our group could be beneficial as we could avoid Germany at this early stage.

Basic consensus - If England win today and next Wednesday everything will be a lot better. But a draw and even a loss would not be the end of the tournament, far from it in fact, especially if the USA lose.

Looks like Slovenia have got their game won.

I thought they were going to turn up and just let the other teams increase their goal tallys. Laughing

Well 2-0 down the USA are.

England win tonight and all they need is a draw against Slovenia. This has notched up the tension for tonight a little bit.

Someone made an interesting comment on the BBC Sport website. They said that a Slovenia win would be best as then they would qualify and thus would likely field an understrength team against England.

They could have a point there. Smile

Isn't hoping for 'understrength' teams the opposite of what the World Cup (or any sporting tournament) is for? Laughing

The best teams/team should win, not the one who've had an easy ride.

The World Cup always has an element of good luck for the winning teams. Wink

I guess in this early stage whatever gets you through to the quarters, the real stuff starts then. Smile Although it'd still be great to see two strong even teams.

Are France out? And Spain at the bottom of their table.

[edit] USA just scored a third but it didn't count.

Tense or what. Smile

Worst result for England I'd say. If Slovenia won then they'd be guaranteed a next round game, as it is they may need to beat England in the final game to qualify.

Edited to remove what was (on reflection) a potentially libellous comment about David James.

Nothing to see here, move along.....
