If its clear then 90~100 - rain brings it down to 7~80. I won't filter above about 30.

Yer i'd say about the same, unless its really wet, then i tend to slow
down a bit. I will travel faster than the cars, ie i will be in the right lane mostly. I dont stick to the middle lane, due to more chance of foolish car divers runnning into me.

70-90 on average.

Commuting daily from F'Boro to Hamble down the M3/M27 in a car noone does < 80 not even lorries.

Its madness and I hate it.

Coming back at 10.00pm its quieter and most people seem to do 85+.

I have overtaken people at 90 only to find that they deliberately put their full beam on when I signal and pull in after overtaking.

The only time people slow down is when a police car is spotted and they become a mobile roadblock causing a traffic jam.

I try and keep it under the ton for normal motorway riding, so probably sit at about 90. The old licence thing. Rolling Eyes

Middle of the night on the empty m4 when you can see there's no Police ... well I obviously sit at 70 don't I. Shifty

Laughing I'm sure you do Twisted Evil not I think the motorway should be made 80mph anyway in clear conditions and 70 in the wet

About 95-100 normally in good weather and traffic. Won't keep a speed of above 100 for long periods of time generally, but do from time to time. Filtering speeds depends on the traffic and the road conditions. At a speed of 100 I am doing some filtering, but too much at the speed. The heavier the traffic the more I slow it down, don't have a set speed I try to keep below when filtering as every time the situation is different. haven't had any problems yet when filtering really, I do try to leave enough time and space to react if there is a problem. I know that some times I have pushed too much when filtering, and the fact I am still here is down to luck really, but I think I was taking the most risks about this time last year when I'd got used to the ZX6R, and was pushing it lots. After the summer I calmed down, and have been riding more sensibly since then I reckon. I do still rush more if I'm late or wanting to get there quickly, but I reckon most of us probably are guilty of doing that.

100mph and plus is basically when you get banned if you get caught speeding, so keeping it up for a long time is not a good idea really. Below 100 it's just points and a fine generally, but they can ban you, and you can get away without a ban or a shorter ben if you get caught over 100.

And well, in my experience speeding on the road is a lot safer than being in a car. Shame I don't think I'll be able to use that as an excuse when I'm back on the roads if I got caught speeding. Laughing

Hello this is my first post here, have been watching a while

This is a topic myself and friends have been talking about a lot recently as unfortunately have had to use a lot of motorways including dreaded m6, and lots of miles abroad

anyway the important thing is to ride to the speed you feel comfortable, especially if weather bad, steamed up cars dont see you, even if in a group and a long journey

middle lane hoggers are a pain, but remember highway code unless overtaking should be in inside lanes, M25 has too many cameras so dont be silly

its good to blatt at times, but police take very dim veiw of high speed filtering

but hey bikes are for fun..so enjoy while we can

will fill in more profile when more sober/awake

Wet weather 60-70

I do if theres a really clear bit of motorway crank it up a bit more, but only for a few seconds, things go by very fast at 150, so ive heard Wink.

Well, I heard from a traffic police biker than above 100mph it gets really loud and that I should wear earplugs. Quite suprised to hear him tell me that, and was tempted to say "ahhh, so you heard me coming" but thought it would be a bad idea really as I was stopped (for no actual reason really) on the A4 going through Reading town centre in a 40mph limit bit. Laughing

Hard to give a clear average, it depends so much on conditions. Anywhere from 60-120 depending on the situation.

Pretty much the same here. Although I hate filtering (the 'don't trust cars thing) I do It quite a bit, usually will filter faster than 30mph if I can go through the middle of the two cars so I know neither of them is likely to swerve!

70-75mph

I am a good law abiding biker Wink

Besides anything above about 80 is a real pain on an unfaired bike after a while.

I'd rather travel a bit slower and get there feeling relaxed and able to move my arms and neck. I don't intend to do 200+ mile journeys in just a couple of hours.

95-100mph normally. Occasionally I'll give it a bit more if there's a clear run with nobody around. It's nice to still have acceleration left at that speed just incase I need to get out of the way all of a sudden.

I started getting into a bad habit on the motorway when I started commuting to work. Undertaking and filtering still going at 100mph. Confused

Normally sit at around 80-85mph. But will often venture past the ton for short blasts.

80-100mph usually, if the motorway is clear I have been know to open it up a bit more. Wink

Most of the time I just go at the speed of cars in the fast lane.

Try to avoid them when ever possible. Living near junction 16 of the M6 I get to hear the sirens most days Sad

I can never see myself riding a bike on one (its the wimp thing again). Embarassed

The only time I don't is when were off for the day to Elvington, Then the average speed is like everybody else 85-100 depending on how urgently I need to get to the service station Laughing

Its depends on my mood and the weather, I sometimes sit in the slow lane and do 60 and keep behind the lorries (mostly when its windy)

Or sometime I can go mad and sit at 110-115MPH but not for long as petrol seems to be gulped down at that speed, but more often than not I cruise between 75-90MPH.

Anything above 85 is a real pain on my GS and it seems to skip about above that speed anyway!

I tend to sit between 90-100mph indicated, that way if I do get caught speedung at least my license won't be gone, I have been known to open it up a bit more if I feel the need to or feel its safe to do so.

I find it hard to go very fast on motorways and keep safe separation, so generally I tend to be doing the same speed as the car in front. Soon as they move over it BLAAAT up to the next car then wait till they move over. I prefer travelling on A roads unless I have to do some serious distance.

So I guess the speed pattern on a motorway is 70 - 110 - 80 - 115 - 75 etc.

I tend to do 70-90, the biggest factor for me being wind, as I have no fairing and only a small screen.

Have occassionally pushed over this, but only when the road is clear.

I tend to be able to look about more at slow speeds as well, it aint so much fun when everything is a blur.

Shade
Happy to bimble along.
