Just found a great site with vids of bikes on some of the best passes in Europe... I do cheat and use Chrome to view foreign language sites as it translates on the fly but check out this one...

I like the look of that first one, while it may be perfectly possibly on an SV650 or any sports/road bike it'd be bloody uncomfortable and hard work on your wrists and the bike, just isn't designed for it and wouldn't be much fun to ride. A bike with nice long suspension travel and knobbly tyres is the tool for the job, no point pretending. I had to ride up a relatively tame section of unsurfaced road on the Umbrail Pass lastyear on my Fireblade, was perfectly tolerable on a sportsbike but when you start getting rocks and rutts and a generally lumpy surface forget it.

Hehehehehe SG 1-3 passes can all allegedly be done on road bikes.

Seriously though based on the numbers of French Italian and Swiss plates you see on these roads, they evidently have no issue with it. It's all down to the fact that these guys grow up on roads like this and just accept it instead of gripping the bars and worrying about coming off... let the bike find it's own level and keep a light grip and you are okay.

Actually i have found it funny that my mates 'Blade is more effective on some of these roads two up than my GS is.... Laughing

This site has loads of vids of the tarmac passes as well, armchair traveling at it's best Very Happy
