Bandit 12 tomorrow :)

I'm picking it up tomorrow for certain.

It's an R-Reg Bandit 1200 with some mild engine tuning.
All im basically after is some good, tried and tested advice on what goes, and what doesnt go on the B12.


Got a feeling there are ground clearance issues with the footpegs?
Rear end? Best way to jack it up a little? Shorter dog bones or longer shock?

Front ends, What fits and what doesn't?
I've heard the GSXR1100 front ends are easy to swap, It's just a case of pressing the stem-tube out of the Bandit bottom yoke, and swapping it with the one in the GSXR bottom yoke.


Just after any general useful advice.

Hi

First thing I would do is fix what will be worn out. Steering head bearings, rear shock linkage bearings, rear caliper, etc.

Old oil cooled GSXR front end is meant to be an easy fit. Down side is that they are worth a bit.

You can get brackets to lift the stock footrest hangers up and back a bit. Or some rear sets can be had for rather more (think mine cost me about £125 2nd hand on Ebay). Possibly cheap way to get some shorter dog bones is to get some from a 600 Bandit (working on the basis that the ones on my 1200 were longer than those on Charlottes 600, hence we used them to lower the 600).

Possibly play with the wires to the gear position switch. Ignition is retarded in the lower gears to reduce power.

Exhaust will be rotten at the join. Excuse for an Akrapovic?

GSXR11 cams can be fitted (need to swap the cam sprockets) if you can find some for reasonable money. Think 1216 piston kits start at a bit over £300 (Roger Upperton has them on Ebay fairly often) although then you will need to budget a fair amount for a gasket set and a for boring the barrels out. Similarly you can get the head gas flowed for about the same amount.

40mm dog bones and progressive fork springs transformed mine. Also put some sticky Bridgestones and a set of ZX12R 6 pots and now its awesome. I nearly sold it last year, very glad i didn't. Race pipe, K&N and jet kit worked well too. Make sure you change the oil regularly. Enjoy

for lifting it my dads S reg oen he paid somethign daft like £19 of ebay for a lift kit. put a shock of i THINK it was a gsxr . front end had some progressives . and hard a ART can on it and a dynojet kit and he loved it to bits

Rode the bike home tonight. It's a bit of a beast.
Tyres MUST be changed, they are shite. But other than that, I'm quite happy with it.

It's got more on it than I thought it had.
Got a couple of Dyno print outs too.

Got two runs, One looks like it's been done in just one gear, and the other looks like it's got gear changes in it.

118.05bhp is the Max power on the chart. Not sure if thats rear wheel power, or at the fly.

Any forks will fit in theory, I just have to press the stem tube out of the bottom yoke, and swap it to the new yoke. Providing it's a straight fit into the bottom yoke. I've been told TLR / TLS / Busa / GSXR1100 forks all share the same stem bolt diameter.

Either way, I'm not ready to swap the forks yet, Money being the main obstacle.
Been out on the bike all day really. Went to work on it this morning, It drinks fuel like a fucker!

Came home, then swapped from textiles into my leathers, and went for a hoon. To say it was a sunny Saturday night, I didnt see a single bike out in any of the meeting spots. Meh.

Did a few laps of the infamous Ebbsfleet. Scraped the right knee, Couldn't get it over far enough to touch down the left knee. Tyres are in shit state, They really are!
Not only that, There's crank case breather fitted, which is fixed to the left hand side of the rear subframe. When I hoist up the front, It spits oil out of the breather. So that's coming off!


Picture was taken this morning when I arrived at work. Those chicken strips are gone now!

Forgot to say, It's already been Jacked 2 inch at the rear.
It's got a custom cover on the seat, Proper leather, from a company called "Smart RRR's"
Got a tidy black undertray fitted also.

I've got about 40 gold anodized bolts to remove, and replace with stainless ones.

Renthal grips, Small bar end mirrors, and some better looking levers are also on my wish list.

I really like that. If I had space for more than one bike, I'd get one myself and give it a bit of fettling.
