Riding opportunities for unlicensed rider with brain injury

Hi guys,

Anyone know of a place where unlicensed riders can participate in track days?

I am looking for an ongoing opportunity for a mate of mine who had an accident back in 2002. His case has settled, he has the house, the girl etc and now really wants to experience freedom again...Only this forum would understand what it would feel like if your bike was taken away so any help would be so appreciated by myself and his family.

He is fully functional in the community and physically capable of riding. He lives in Hitchin and also looking for someone for regular outings on his trike. He rides as passenger and has no car license.

Without any form of license I think you'll struggle. You need to be able to prove your friend is competant on a bike. Be that with a road license, or a race license.

I know you said to email, but I'm lazy and this way if you ever check back you know it's not been ignored.

Not all trackdays ask to see your licence - I don't think Mallory or Rockingham do. The MSV tracks definitely do though.

He could also consider off-road riding of various types. You don't need a licence for enduro or trials practice days and they're a lot cheaper too.

I'm a bit confused by the mention of the trike - does this mean he does have a car license? If so, is there any reason he can't just get a bike license again?

Oh and as with Big_ham I'm both lazy and don't see how leaving the UK would stop you reading the thread then copying and pasting the bits in to an email as desired.
It's also useful information should others in a similar situation happen upon it .

Hey - yeah understood. I hadn't seen the email notification at that stage so have duly edited my post.

No car license either - he sits as a passenger on the trike. I'll talk to him about off-road and will contact the tracks you mentioned.

As far as trackdays go, you would have to contact the organisers (eg Hottrax, No Limits, Focused Events etc...) directly for advice. They would also have to get the blessing of the circuit they were running on (so MSV or the independents, depending where it is). Its a pretty longshot as its all to do with their liability insurance.

G's suggestion of offroad stuff is a very good one, its a lot less regulated.
