hi there, iv got a 2002 r6 and had it for 6 months. rides well and one day i came home turned it off then i had to move the bike and when i try to start it again it wont start. its like your tyring to start it up with a kill switch on, ie no turn over , nothing , just dead. the light are on bright as hell so i know there life in my battery. when you leave it for awhile it starts up fine but when you go for a ride out and turn the key key off then try to start it up again, its like someone has put the kill switch on. so far iv changed a new starter soliniod and a second hand cut out relay and a second hand side stand switch and it stills does it. starts up fine when its cold every time but as soon you go out on it some time it starts and sometime it wont but most of the time it wont, but when you jump start it it start up fine even with a small push on my own. any ideas anyone please...iv also stripped the kill switch to bits and cleaned it up best i could, i undid the throttle cables and undid the tie clip for the wires and cleaned all the contacts on the starter switch as well

yes mine still bump started... i changed all you did too. the immobilizer is cutting something in the starter.... TRUST ME i had this problem for 7 months after it all got very wet. me and my mate stripped the immobilizer off the bike and it was perfect...

70% of the time it would start off the button.
i used to short the solanoid under the seat if it wouldnt start and no one was round to give me a push....

my bike got very wet ONCE.. ever since that day even in the summer it had this problem. i changed it all that you have changed and 1 day i sat there and heard a very slight click click click come from the immobilzer. i checked all the cables and made sure it was all dry with no joy.
i cut the immobilizer out the wiring harness and the bike was perfect.....

ill give you £20 if it isnt the immobilizer Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Wink

not very easy as its wired into the loom in a tricky way so pikeys cant remove it.
i had a good look and found mine connected into 3 places so i removed it and connected the orininal wires into the correct place and it fired up each and everytime.
im no wizz with electrics but a good sit and look helped and i could then see where i had to remoce it...

I had a kinda similar problem on my long term (i.e. 176,000 mile) ZZR600. Sometimes would not start from the starter but would happily bump. Or put it in gear and rock it back and forth a little then it would start from the button. Stripped starter motor and found the brushes had worn so much that the brushes did not always make contact properly. Clean all the kack off and all was well

its strange with this but it starts all the time when cold and most of the time when its warmed up it wont but easly starts when you give it a little push for a jump start. today im going to try to undo the immobilizer without cutting wires so if it wasnt that i can put it back together again, then ill try to stripped the starter motor,

cheers again people for ideas Wink Thumbs Up

too many black wires coming out of the data tool and most of them going into the loom with two wires from the datatool joining one wire in the loom. cant figure out how to join which wires to what Confused
plus three wires coming from the datatool towards the fuel tank and anther two towards the flashing led light. iv only figured out those going towards the tank is power to the led and to unlock the mobilizer sound. those going to the loom are two paired wires from datatool going in to one wire each and four wires joining four wires. if only there were colour coded as im not a electrican. dont know why but iv put every thing back neat and tidy , infact better than it was Smile and its alright now, i got it up to 88 c hot and it starts up fine, i let it cooled down to 44 c hot and started it up and at 55c 65c 75c 85c it stop and started every time Question very strange Exclamation so tomoz on the way to work fingers crossed when i get there it will start. see when i tidy under the seat i took off the relays and cdi unit taped all the wires good and cable tied things good and then put back relays and fuse case and cdi unit. makes me wonder if the cdi unit was playing up or was not push in right Question so we will see tomoz Karma Mr. Green Cool cheers gray84 for your time Very Happy Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

i had a similar issue, multimeter out, couldnt find anything at all, got absolutely sick of it, went back a day later, disconnected each wire one by one just to clean them and when i did the last one and tried it, problem solved, all id done was found either some water or a loose connection,

some good advice in here

Weird question but do you have any pics of your 176k ZZR?

Curious to how these things look after some epic mileage Thumbs Up .

PostPosted: 19:52 - 20 Jun 2010    Post subject: still wont start at times Reply with quote

im still having problems on my bike Evil or Very Mad
like iv said at the 1st thread it starts up fine every time when cold and when it does one it plays up bad. last time this happened was on thursday, got home and it wouldnt start till it cooled down. then it was ok till today (sunday) went out for a run and when it got to 85c heat temp i stopped it and wouldnt start till it cooled down. last sunday i spent 6 hours checking under the seat and see if i could take off the datatool but too many black wires. i put it all back and it worked fine till thursday then today. iv not washed it for two weeks so i know its not a water problem, iv put a new starter soliniod, a second hand cut out relay and a side stand switch. i dont know what to do next as i dont want to take it to the dealers again as they charge me a arm n leg like they did me just for a plain service which cost me £500. in the haynes manual electric diagram there is a lot of components conecting together to save wires and so on like for instance
, kill switch- clutch switch-side stand switch-speed sensor- throtle sensor-cut out relay-ignition contol unit-alarm and pick up, it goes on n on.

PLEASE CAN ANYONY HELP ME PLEASE- my baby needs help Laughing

another thing at times when it reaches to around 85c heat temp it sometime the revs creep up to 3-4 revs on the
clock, i thought i would need a speed sensor or a throttle sensor but in the book it says that would happen when you 1st start the bike up. any ideas peeps Karma Thumbs Up
