Hi, whats all this I hear about ear damage to bikers ears Question Question Question
A few instructors advised my group to get ear plugs and coughed through much of the ear damage subject. From what I could make out bikers get ear damage from the wind noise ( Question ) and this leads to tinnitus which in the words of the instructor 'will drive you insane... especially later in life'.
Anyone know about this Question
Is it legal to wear ear plugs while riding on your bike Question Question Any of you guys do that Question Although they were out of ear plugs anyone know where to get them Question Any particular type Question Question

I REALLY DONT WANT TO GO INSANE... ARGHHHHH MAKE IT STOP! Crying or Very sad

Hi

Wind noise in a helmet is extreeme. PB did a test a good few years ago using a rider with a microphone positioned in their ear, then sent them off for a 100mph lap on a CBR600 using various different crash helmets. At 100mph the noise varied from 105db to 120db (in other words bloody loud to very deafening).

Basically if you go for a ride and get off with your ear ringing you have done perminant damage to your ears.

I have never got on with the foam ear plugs. They work well, but never (on me) stay in place for that long. After about 1/2 an hour it is garunteed that at least one will have come out.

I bought some of the moulded to fit earplugs. These work well, but not quite as well as the foam ones. However they do not come out of place. Bit pricey though at £45 but you just keep using them

All the best

Keith

Previously I have regularly got tinitus from long trips.
I got some foam ear plugs for the ride up to the Rock and Blues... when I actually remembered to put them in I have to say I was really impressed... They cut out allmost all of the wind noise at legal speeds... at about 110 ducking behind my dubble bubble a *little* had the same effect.
I've obviously got 'correctly' shaped ears Smile as they didn't fall out or work free.

Maybe, but in that test the quietest helmet was 105db. Think the limit for a bike is 80db. Roughly speaking the wind noise in the helmet was 256 times louder than a bike exhaust is allowed to be (the db scale is logarithmic, and a 3db increase is double the volume)

M25 is Londons orbital car park so most people can leave there vehicles safe before venturing into London (after all, London is where we send all the thieving politicians)
