AFAIK they are not legal, but many bikers choose to have them anyway, presumably to look "cool". I expect you can get them made at any car shop etc. Smile

Wotcha.

I'm afraid single line plates are illegal on bikes.

<<from the DVLA website>>
Motorcycles registered on or after 1 September 2001 must display a two-line number plate number plate. Motorcycles registered prior to the 1 September 2001 may display a three-line plate, but one-line plates are illegal, irrespective of the date of registration of the motorcycle.

https://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/regmarks/reg_marks_current_requirements.htm#motorcycles

So if they want to be funny - they can nick you for it. I ran a single line plate for years on my bike and never got pulled for it - there again, I didn't know it was illegal then, not that it makes any odds.

You can buy them from Mal Plates. I've bought from them twice in the past with no problems at all, fast delivery and item was good quality and what I was expecting it to be. I'd happily buy from them again if I needed to buy a numberplate. Thumbs Up

Basically i was suggesting in strong terms that you stop being a twat to jon. Sorry if you're not rooroo, always thought the two usernames were used by the same lad.

and the "I'm not a fag" thing kinda sounds like him - no offence to anyone present Razz .

Lol please note on the is conpants rooroo argument.

Conure > RooRoo > (possibly) Conpants

That id believe

Then the fact the posts are within minutes of each other, say enough to log out and back in as someone else on a crappy 56k connection.

Then the fact that check on the map;
Rooroo - https://www.bikechatforums.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2585

Conpants - https://www.bikechatforums.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2812

Almost identical, if not identical.

I reckon a mod could ip check em... that would end the argument.

If you look at the source for the pages, you can see that their locations on the map are slightly different, similar but not the same. Thumbs Up

Q1. Has anyone been pulled and fined or received any points for having a small plate?

Q2. Does anyone know if a small plate is an MOT failure?

Cheers,,,,

A small plate is a non endorsible offence, so points aren't a problem. For a first time 'pull' you are looking at a 40 quid fixed penalty notice.

so if your plate is:

A1 you would legally HAVE to have a plate saying:

A
1

What about the numberplates that old bikes have on the mudgard, do they had to be 2 lines aswell? Razz

A damaged plate would cause an MOT failure, so i expect that an illegal one would do to.
