I'm just thinking about removing the baffles from the cat, anyone know how this is done? From what I can figure I drill out the smaller aperture at the end of the can, to the size of the larger one?

Is there a way to stop to much stuff going down the exhaust? Anything I should be careful/aware of?

Thumbs Up

When I did the Firestorm there was small pipes in the can with tiny welds on so when you drill through the end of the can nothing falls down into the can, if you get what I mean? Smile

You'll need a /long/ flat head screwdriver and a hammer to break the welds. It's quite a fiddly job but you shouldn't have problems with stuff falling down inside the can.

You need a hole saw which just fits inside the outer bit and is deep enough to slip over the baffle pipe so it bites through the plate that holds it in place, once you've gotten through the plate just bash/twist/pull the baffle to free it. Doesn't matter if bits of crud fall down the pipe as they'll just be blown out again when you start the bike.

Also, if you're that worried about small bits falling down the can, take it off the bike, turn it upside down and jiggle it a bit, any metal fragments will fall out. Thumbs Up

Where did I get the word jiggle from? Very Happy

Don't think I have a hole saw the right size, was thinking about just drilling a load of little holes round the edge and then just bashing it with a hammer...?

It would work but i'd get myself down to the local DIY store if I was you. It will be a lot easier/neater if you get the right size hole saw. Thumbs Up

Hi

Given how cheap a race can is, and how useful an unmolested standard can is, I don't think I would go drilling holes in it.

All the best

Keith

Keith, race cans aren't that cheap for the 'cat, but standard cans go for a tenner sometimes on ebay.
