tent buying

Right...

Need a tent for going touring on bike. needs to be comfortableish for longish tours (2 people, couple of weeks), obviously dual skin is a must. Likewise must be able to pitch the waterproof bit first and take down the inner bit first.

Pack size not too importent. will be going on a bike with panniers so aslong as it'll go on the back it's all good.

Ideally vango or another good make.

Ideally don't want to spend much more then 50 quid.

Is it really worth paying the extra for (say...) vango tempest or possibly one of the vango 250's for a bit of extra space ?

Personally I'd go for the bit more room option, if you're going for two weeks. If you end up with shitty weather and have to spend more time in it, you'll appreciate the extra space.

You're going to be pushing it to get a Vango for under £50. As pack size isn't an issue, a Gelert is probably your best bet.

I don't have personal experience of that tent, but I do have a Gelert Tornado 3, which is a little on the large size like the Eiger, but it's never leaked and I've spent a few weeks in it over the years.

I'd personally spend that little bit more money and get a Vango Tempest 200 or 300. I'll be getting the Tempest 200 (or the equivalent) for my next tent.

You should look at some of the 3 man Hi-Gear tents from Go Outdoors.

Actually, you may be able to pick up a Vango for under £50.

Someone else has already pointed to the UK Campsite page. Go to their lightweight camping / backpacking forum for more info.

You may also want to look at getting a Tarp and a couple of poles - this is a lightweight solution which will give you a bit of shelter whilst not being cooped up in the tent - just google Camping Tarp (or have a look on youtube for some ideas).

My Dad is selling a second hand Vango TBS 200 Micro, like this one:

Note it isn't the new model with the raised corners. It is used, but works fine. I have used it quite a lot and it is good, although cramped for 2 people plus gear. Just right in my eyes for 1 person and gear.
