Been considering buying a back protector. Basically, does anyone have one? and would they recommend it?
Thanks

I bought an Alpinestars one when I bought my aplinestars leathers. I hate it. I really don't wear it very often. Sometimes I do if I'm going out to ride some twisties but the thing is so uncomfortable. I can barely do a lifesaver when I've got it on. Does anybody else find this? There is a compartment in the back of the alpinestars jacket that says insert back protection here and it zips closed. Is there one I can buy that will fit inside the jacket instead?

Sure, If there's a compartment for it then they're bound to make one.

I have the Knox race one which you put on first, I would not ride without it now.

Well there is a bit of flimsy foam inside it already. I was just wondering if anyone knew if there was a really good one you could upgrade to. If there is then why don't they put it inside the jacket as standard after paying all that cash for it!?

I have a dianese one, its kinda like a woodlouse shell, bends one way really well, and not the other way.
I dont find it uncomfortable at all.
And safety wise, its stops your spine being so inclined to wrap around the first lampost you hit at 80 odd.

As Bonny Ricardo mentioned Dianese do a nice 'shell like' insert, they look pretty good and aren't that expensive. You could also take your jacket into Hein Gericke as they do back inserts in different sizes (usually working just as well as the name brands but for half the price). Hopefully one will fit into yours.

Basically, they don't include them so you have to spend even more money in the name of safety!

Good luck!

Bit of a can of worms this one, have a word with TC.

Hein Gericke do the soft armour, bit of a tard today can't remember the name, TC recommends it and it's also CE approved.

I have a Knox back protector which I won't race without

when I remember I wear it on the road

it makes me look even more like Humpty Dumpty but it's not at all uncomfortable and doesn't restrict movement at all

They do only work with one piece or zip together 2 piece though as they ride up if not held down so I wouldn't recommend one under a fabric jacket

I've got a Hein Gericke back protector. It's worn as a sleeveless jacket (the front of it's stretchy fabric) and the back protector can be removed so you can was the fabric part. It's pretty comfy (except when the crotch strap moves Shocked ). I think it was about £50.

Hi

Unsecured back protectors can and do break peoples necks. In an accident they ride up and hit the back of the riders helmet, forcing it forward fairly violently.

All the best

Keith
