Is that the one on Chalk Farm Road opposite the market? Years ago I went there on my old scooter and turning in slowly the front wheel slipped. I did manage to keep it upright just and complained! The guy just shrugged his shoulders.

A petrol station to avoid!

That would be the one!

As far as taking my helmet off, I don't and I've never been asked to. I was once asked to move my bike to a different pump as the CCTV camera couldn't catch my number plate if I drove off. Texaco paid me £25 of petrol vouchers for THAT insult!

All I wanted was for them to put down some sand. I do appreciate that spillages occur, but when the guy obviously knew about it and did nothing anyhow, that is just plain ignorance.

Do not put it on the floor!!!! By all means remove your lid if you want, but I ONCE put my helmet on the floor at a petrol station. That evening I was very sore and itchy around my chin and neck.

Cheers I will do that in future, it hasn't happened to me yet, but I will take your advice and find some other place to put my helmet.

This isn't a gripe at the petrol station as such, but earlier when I went to fill up I went to the cashier and I didn't get served for well over a minute, because the two women attendants were more interested in talking about tonights Eastenders, that is downright rude and the fact she then swiped my debit card wrong so the process had to be started again I left pretty pissed off. Is there any way I can make a complaint? Karma Smile

I hate that Somerset Scratcher - it's the height of ignorance when you walk into a shop and two people behind the counter just ignore you and carry on talking, I REALLY REALLY HATE THAT!!! Pet hate of mine.

Once in Safeway I stood there for about 3 minutes I would say, and even after I suspiciously coughed, was looked at, they looked away and carried on talking. I banged my items down in front of them and said something along the lines of 'I'll go to a shop where the staff actually work to buy my groceries from now on!'
Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Oooooohhhh, that really does get my goat up!!!

<Sorry peeps, I'm off my soap-box now!!>

No Offence to Fallen Angel, or any other female on this site, but I find it is usually women that carry on talking...because they do gossip quite a lot and I generally don't have any problems with men at the counter. Smile

Fuel in a petrol station is to be expected really, and I'd much rather that it was spilt in there rather than on the roads. If you're annoyed don't take it out on the guy behind the till as it's nothing at all to do with him, and if you had an accident which was down to the petrol stations fault he wouldn't be paying, the company would. Speak to the manager, or just take your business elsewhere as there's normally a fairly good choice of petrol stations as long as you're not on the motorway or nearly run out of petrol, so next time if you don't like the service they provide, don't give them your money, take it elsewhere.

The person behind the tills really doesn't care if you're happy or unhappy with the service that you get, it makes no difference at all to him, other than if all the customers were unhappy they won't come back which means less work for him. He gets paid whatever happens so it's of no bother to him if you're very pissed off as he doesn't care really. I know I wouldn't care one bit how happy the customers were with the company, and I expect you also wouldn't care one bit. Ask to speak to the manager, or take it higher still and contact someone in the head office if you're really annoyed with the company.

I hate the whole taking your helmet off and paying first thing. But unless I’m away from home I use the same garage all the time. It's great as all the staff in the shop know me and when I pull up they just give me a wave or a nod. I no longer have to take my helmet off, pay first or get off the bike. I just fill up, ride to the window and done.

When I’m away from home I really miss my petrol station. Sad

Never been asked to remove my helmet in a petrol station that I can remember, but I can see the reason behind it, but being asked to get off the bike before filling it up is daft. If I was going to fill the bike up and ride off without paying, needing to get off the bike and then back onto it wouldn't stop me doing so. Complete lack of logic behind them asking people to do that. Rolling Eyes

Never been asked to pay up before filling up. I have plenty of choice of petrol station, so I'd just go elsewhere.

I would agree with you there 100%. Women shop attendees can be right cows also. I have another story when I lost my rag.....

I went to Klick to pickup my photos from Glastonbury the other week, now it was 5:20pm and the shop doesn't shut until 5:30pm, the door was still open even though the lights were out, so I went in and...

Me: "hiya" (in the nice friendly way I normally do)
Shop Assist: "we're closed" (in a really nippy way)
Me: (in a nice friendly manner AGAIN) "Is it not 5:30pm you close at?" (I was trying the nice approach)
Shop Assist: "Yeah, but it's 5:35pm" (even more ratty than before)
me: "It's only 5:20pm" (my friendliness was dying off now)
HER: "Well tough I've already cashed up!!!!"
Me: "EXCUSE ME?" (In a rather loud, disbelieved at the attitude kind of manner)
Her: "I said, I've already cashed up"
Me: "That's not what you said and I'll be writing in my letter of complaint to your head office what you said along with your lovely helpful attitude!! NOT. Thanks for all your help and you have a lovely evening too!"

Evil or Very Mad BITCH Twisted Evil !!! I'm telling you, I could have dragged her over that counter and punched her straight in the coupon - cheeky boot! She's obviously not had it for a couple of months!!

I'm always nice to people in the first instance Karma , my moto in life is treat others the way you expect to be treated, but people like that really get my goat!

Oh dear...sounds like they need me to give them a call and let me sell them a spill kit Laughing

It really does bug me when people are rude or have a bad attitude. Getting petrol is a hassle in itself (well, it is for lazy folk like me) and you don't need idiots making things more of a hassle. As an employee of a fuel supplier it's their responsibility to ensure all spills are cleaned up and reported if necessary, and the staff should be trained to deal with such incidents and to be nice to customers at the very least!

There is a cool old man who works in my local BP, and last time he gave me some chocolate for free. Oh the joys of being female Smile

Same here, I always use the Texaco Garage at the end of my estate, they know me now and my bike so its really not an issue, but sometimes I feel the need to fill up at tesco (cos its 2p cheaper) I have been asked to take my helmet off there over the tannoy too Confused.
I very rarely use Tesco's these days though!

But the best time I've ever used a petrol station is when I had my 50cc scoot, I was on my way to pick up my first new 'proper' bike after passing my test (an ER-5) I forgot to put petrol in the scoot and it ground to halt on a dual carriage way.

So I pushed it to a small family owned garage and discovered I had no money on me what so ever and my cards was an electron which aren't accepted in garages, so the nice old gentlemen let me have £1.50 of petrol on an IOU, it was so nice of him to do that for me, so not all petrol stations or attendants are horrible! Smile

Thats strange, my Electron is accepted everywhere...just not the internet. Twisted Evil

Coming to think of it maybe the reason it wasn't accepted was because it was a small family owned garage.

Well when I was 16/17 and had an electron NONE of the garages near me would accept it, so I would always have to get money out before I got petrol, I now have a proper visa card so its not a problem anymore.

I've found you can use electrons online, Amazon accept them and so do ebuyer, though some places do decline them, but a trick ive found is by saying that its a Visa Debit card, seems to take it most of the time Smile.

It was the rudeness I objected to more than the spillage.

As for me not caring about the customers of my company, I can assure you that my job would be on the line if I was found to be rude to a client.

Yeah I say it is a Visa Debit Card on Ebay, why does it matter anyway? As long as they have the number surely that is all that matters. Smile

I diagree with those who have said that you should expect fuel on the ground in a petrol station. You should be AWARE that there may be, but the garage has a duty of care to its customers to clean up any spillages promptly. It is just the same as if you slipped on a wet floor in a supermarket and they hadn't put up signs saying 'wet floor'. Not only are fuel spills a slip hazard but they are also an environmental and fire hazard. I can assure you that the HSE would take an extremely dim view of pools of diesel lying about on the forecourt.

My favourite was when I had my old PC50. They always used to moan because "It's a minimum delivery of 2 1/2 litres." Tank had a 2 litre capacity so I usually landed up putting 1.75 in or thereabouts. They never fully explained what they wanted me to do with the rest of it. Neutral

I once had one of them tell me I had to put my (900mm seat height) supermoto on its stand to fill up, I got off the bike and showed them the rediculous angle this left the filler cap at and they relented.

I never take my helmet off, even if there are signs saying so. noone has ever bothered me. It is a nuiscance to do so. Helmet in one hand, keys in the other. Now take off your gloves, transferring keys to mouth as you do so, with your third hand get out your wallet and with your fourth take your card out of said wallet and sign the chit.

I wear glasses, so I take my helmet off as a last resort, as it is a bit of a pain.

Never been asked to remove my lid, or get off bike.

I find that cleavage and a smile helps in the avoidance of having to remove one's lid Smile

But not builder's-bottom type cleavage, of course.

working in garages i do not have a problem with motorcyclists
if they are hidden from view i may leave it a while before i activate pump untill we get a good view.

i do not ask for helmets to be removed (thankfully not policy) i find it not quiet as rude as those people who refuse to stop talking on mobile

i will put sand down as soon as can when aware

as a thought, the exit from a garage usually most dangerous, especially as slope. and any spilt fuel will be here
