how to activate wow free trial?

Hi guys,

Last night mr T convinced me to download the free world of warcraft trail it took all night and cost about 11.5 GB of my 15GB per month allowance (mobile internet with 3) once it had finnished installing all the relevent patches etc.

Problem is now that I have wow installed and created a battle.net account I can not log in without having a warcraft account merged with it.

Now maybe I am just being dense here but to get a warcraft account to merge with this battle.net account they are asking for a retail cd key, does this mean to get a free trail you have to buy the retail version of wow? even if you have just spent a rediculous amount of time downloading it (even at 250KB/s it took an age),

Now this to me seems to defeat the object of a free trail unless there is something I am missing it would seem that I have killed off the majority of my internet allowance for this month for no reason.

Everytiome I try to login to wow it says that no warcraft accounts arew associated with this battlenet account?

Any advice on activating the free wow trial or creating a wow account without having a retail cd at hand is eagerly awaited.

So am I right in guessing the best course of action is to just delete the lot, and recliam my hdd space (15+gb altogether with the installer backups etc).

Remember, the only way to win at WoW, is not to play WoW.

After playing for a while (a few years) this is what WoW felt like for me;

Spend hundred of hours, make a number of sacrifices working your arse off doing something that was ultimately satisfying but at many moments, extremely boring in an attempt to ultimately achieve the pinnacle of what the game has to offer.

When an expansion pack comes out it belittles your current achievements in such a way that it would be like spending a year wage on a Rolex only to be told it was a fake. Sure it's still worth something, but now where near the amount of hours of work it had cost you.

Other than that it's a fun game and I suggest you buy a yearly subscription in advance if you really want to play it.

tbh I would have been happy to download the trial, and use the 10 days to decide if I liked the game or not.

I justs seems overly complicated and deliberatly misleading to actualy get and use the 10 day free trial (misleading in the sense that you need an already active account of a purchased cd key to use it).

I'm sure the game would have been very entertaining but tbh I just can't be bothered trying to get it working anymore, so blizzard have just lost a potential customer.

The p2p nature of the installer is a little cheeky too, i'm sure the downloads would have used less of my data allowance if I had not been uploading at the same time,

just blizzards way of saving money on download resources I suppose but still cheeky for not telling you to begin with, especialy with many people running a per gb price plan these days.

I finaly managed to get the wow.exe working (didn't need to enter a cd key after all) it turned out one of the patches hadn't installed right causing the screen to shut of when I clicked the play button. I manualy dragged everything into the wow folder and the game started up.

I still ended up deleting the game anyway, the tasks seemed a bit tedious and I kept getting killed by scores of creatures/outlaws whilst walking through the woods etc, then getting killed straight away by the same creatures/outlaws after reviving,
