Hi there. New to this forum - spent a bit of time reading threads to make sure it's what I am looking for. All seems okay (except for the nsfw thread) so i will post. Don't have a bike at the moment, but have plenty of riding experience - so could possibly help with bits n bobs.
I am female, have a love for animals, kids and bikes. I won't say where I am in the UK, other than the fact that I am based in the south of England. (People at my job place are registered users here.)

i'm actually looking for a bike to buy come sep/oct: a sporty 400 -ish, perhaps, if anyone has something.
Hope this is okayfor a first post , and that it's okay for me to post in future.

Reliable 400cc sports bikes are becoming quiet rare now, its been such a long time since any were made. Any reason why you want one in particular?

Hi there! thank you for the reply (thought this place might be a bit too boyish for me, so many thanks for the warm welcome).
Previous bikes included an RS 100 and a gsx 250 - some years ago. When i passed my test I rode around on a 'more recent' bonnivile 750 when i was a bit older, and then someone's honda cb 400/500?
was advised to go for something a bit sporty - but not too 'wild' - not got around to it yet, nor do I have the funds, but will hopefully have about £2000 available ( due to a windfall) come september.

Not very good, I know, but looking for somewhere better than MCN for a new bike, i guess.

You should look at a few different types of bikes.
The Bros and super four are good and easy to ride.

I might well have a cbr400rr available. Got it for my daughter but dont think she is going down the bike route now

Its in getting fettled by my tame mechanic and a restrictor kit fitted. If my daughter still isnt interested I'll put it up for sale.

How long has it been since you were last on a bike? The reason I ask is to understand your level of confidence. There are a few ladies (and men) on here who are on the shorter side, I'm sure a couple are under 5ft, and yet they ride all sorts of bikes. Its not the size that matters, its the 'feel' and your own confidence. Cruiser type bikes have a lower seat height although they are not everyones cup of tea,

Have you considered getting a smaller, cheaper, bike and seeing how you get on? If you only spend a couple of hundred on it you won't be too concerned if you have to drop it at some point while you get used to being back on the road. You could always sell it after a few months and get something a bit bigger.

At 5' 6" your tall enough for quite a few bikes. I know of one lady that rides a CBR600FY and she is around 4'10". Admittedly it has had replacement dog bones to drop the height and she has dropped it a few times due to the weight but she is certainly happy with it.
