or maybe a rxs100 they sound pretty good

If you mean the SR125, my daughters will hit 65 at best with me on it, and thats on the clock.

I doubt one could get to 80 unless you were a 1 stone midget.

In fact MCN specs say
Engine size 124cc
Power 12bhp
Top speed 55mph
Insurance group 4

I have an SR and have had 70 out of it but it sure doesn't sound to good, 60 is more comfortable on the engine

My Rieju RS2 Pro thing has a Yam engine in. The XT125 one I think. In perfect weather I have managed 70 going up the A40.... But I mean not a gust of wind, tucked right in, pinning the throttle back. Its 4 stroke and gets a fantastic mileage.

A de-restricted Aprillia RS125 should give you more speed. But its illegal if you don't have a full licence. Its fuel economy de-restricted will be a disaster as its a 2 stroke.

All the restricted bikes top out at about 65 to 70.

Personally for the tiny extra speed you are likely to be able to get I would stick with the CG untill you can pass your test.

Regards,
Andrew

Spanish brand, but they use proper Yamaha engines. Everywhere that reviews them says they are good, reliable nippy bikes but highly strung. I am still not entirely sure what that means... Every time I read about Spanish bikes the words 'highly strung' appear somewhere in the text.

I got better pics of my own one than that, same bike, just that's a bad... Angle for the photo. Looks good for a 125. The Yamaha engine and decent size were the selling points for me.

Laughing
I've had a Montesa Cota for the last quarter of a century and have had plenty of experience of the 'old' Spanish bikes; Montesa, Ossa & Bultaco....

Maybe my readings not as up to date as yours, but 'Highly Strung' was NEVER something they were accused of!

my EN125-2 would make 70 on a good day, didn't like it particularly well but it could do it. Had to cane the throttle and hope you didn't have to slow and speed up again. happy at about 55-60 normally.

Your probably right. Most of my reading was of the newer, and I hate use this word regarding 125cc bikes, 'racier' looking bikes. Hispania, Derbi, and Rieju.

The CG is amazing on fuel consumption as you say (one of the reasons I probably won't ever be giving mine up) however, anything that's capable of going faster - say 80MPH - will require more horsepower to do it and will therefore need to burn more fuel (unless it's a crazy aero bike).

I once did a 75MPH run on my CG in perfect conditions and the fuel efficiency dropped down to 75MPG. Any bike accelerating faster and doing proper speeds is bound to be much worse on fuel, especially from being say forced to sometimes do 50MPH on the CG which takes not much fuel at all to do.

What I'm trying to say is that it's not even which bike you get, it's how you're going to use it. Anything you ride slowly will have the fuel consumption you're looking for, and anything capable of really putting down the power will drink like nothing else.

I'd say for for a 250cc.

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?

Until you pass your test you are restricted to 14.6bhp, which makes all of the learner 125's much of a muchness speed wise. There are a few which will hit 75 to 80mph.

My CG used to touch 70mph with me onboard depending on the day.

The best advice here is to pass your test and then trade the CG in when you can afford the bike you'd like.

Cry me a river.

SV got 30-35mpg or so on a good day of conservative riding!

I'd recommending passing your test and getting a CB500 or similar. Thumbs Up.

Op you could try to find an older Honda cb125t (16.5 bhp) which in their day would clear 80mph without trouble although you would need to restrict it as it exceeds the bhp limit for learners. these bikes are also easier on fuel than the 2 strokers and share a lot of parts with other Hondas.
