Well not exactly a new type of conviction but i've received a letter that i've never seen before.
It's from the police, and states that i was speeding on sunday night round the town centre. First off, i was there sunday passing through to go and host a radio show. The town centre is a known cruising spot for young people so this is why there is police presence usually.
The difference with this letter is that is says who ever was driving was 'allegedly speeding' with no figures or anything.
It then goes on to say please state who the driver was (name, address, age etc). The way it's written does not say that if i put my name down i am convicted, it's as if they just wanna check out im perhaps an older driver or something and not 'cruising'.

Anyone know more about these?

If it doesn't say 'Notice Of Intended Prosecution' I'd lob it in the bin. If it does you have to reply to it or you'll get 6 points.

I've got no experience but it sounds like they are just fishing, you know along the lines of a road side stop and asking 'any idea why I've pulled you over?'

I think if it was me I would just wait until they sent me another one, interesting to see how this goes though.

I got a similar thing when I was rebuilding the Speed Four saying it was seen doing 38 in a 30. Considering the Four had no wheels on it That was pretty impossible.

Yup, sounds like they're trawling for particularly honest (or gullible?) motorists.
I'd definately ignore it unless they send the N.I.P.

It says it is an offence not to reply basically. Are you saying this wasn't a proper copper then?
It says it was put forward by PC Cole.

So they're saying a crime may have been committed by someone, but they don't know who?

Straight in the bin!

So reply to their letter then - just don't answer any of their questions.

Something along the lines of "Thank you for you letter dated ****, I will investigate the matter and respond to you when I have the information available."

I'd call that a reply Laughing

Be careful about listening to the people who say 'they dont know who committed the alleged offence, ignore it'.
If the letter is legit it is an offence in itself to not name the driver if you can reasonably know who it is. (as has been mentioned, but ignored by later posters it seems).

I repeat the request for an upload Smile

I have only the front page as ive sent the other one off.
Basically they wanted confirmation of who was driving but that doesn't mean i'm nicked. It said on the 2nd form it was an offence to not give details so i have. I would ignore it but if im right, they can't do piss all without evidence.

Here's the front page...

These things disgust me, suggestively speculating and expecting you to fall on your own sword.

They should be shot immediately, so that we may cleanse our streets.

looks like a NIP to me.

Is there any chance whoever was driving the vehicle was more than 30mph above the limit?

I don't know if i was speeding, seems that they dont either.
They can't convict me just because i confirm it was me driving. They have nothing but an opinion.

He said i was driving dangerously and speeding, properly damaged his car apparently Rolling Eyes

Stated it was a load of bull as I have no damage to my car...they said it would be dropped anyway, no witnesses etc
