What a bunch of theaving SCUM.
I sold a bike 18 months ago and phoned up 1st quote to cancel the insurance. It worked out that i had paid £55 of my £85 policy and that it would cost £45 to cancel it, making it less expensive to keep it running. Quite why it is so expensive for them to not do something i don't know.

6 months passed and i had received no renewal notice from them. I phoned up to check an found out they had automatically renewed it without telling me and again it would cost more to cancel than to leave running.

12 months passes and i phone up to tell them i don't want to renew. They tell me that the current policy will be left to run and that i will need to phone up after the new policy starts and cancel that one. Just got off the phone to them to find after an aditional 2 years riding, and surprisingly 2 more years without claiming my policy is now down to......



£75. Wow, so 2 years safe riding has made me £10 less likely to die in an horrific expensive accident. The policy has also been renewed costing £40 initial, then £10 for the first month, and guess what... £45 to cancel.

So in short i'm now insured with these fuckers for a 3rd year and still have no idea how to cancel my policy without it costing a fortune. I get the feeling i'm going to be with these fuckers forever, which really pisses me off. I can see them all in the board meeting now, high fives all round for yet another years improved sales while countless pennyless people like me are getting fucked over.

I've noticed lately that searches for anything bike related on google often return BCF threads. Lets hope this one turns up a few times for people thinking about insuring with them.

Similar happened to me.
Went to insure through a different company, but they called to say they couldn't get my no claims, i'd have to contact my previous company - which is bennetts.

Called bennetts up to tell them about the no claims, they said they couldn't give the no claims as i was insured with them. I cancelled the policy (day 366, 1st day of renewal), and it cost me 20 pounds.

Ohh well - pays to call well in advance, i'm just lazy and it cost me.

Reading reviews from other people online, the cancellation fee seems to change on a person by person basis and appears engineered to make it more expensive to cancel than to leave the policy to run.

Suck it up and pay the £45? Its cheaper than the £75 they will charge you to renew it again. Or set an alarm on your phone to go off two weeks before your renewal date so you can cancel it properly.

Automatic renewals are shit, ive been caught out by Tesco's a few times because I didnt get the automatic renewal letter. I cancelled it this year but just know they are going to attempt to keep it running. Same thing with Bennetts too actually.

Yeah i've moved a shit load of times, but i've not changed the address i've given them as it didn't matter as i didn't have the bike. I'm back at my fathers now, which is the address that they have had all along and there has been no renewal letter either year. Cunts.
